This is true and I did miss out BMW from the list. I have Bath Road Motorcycles and Lovetts, for BMW. I will be visiting and keeping an eye on their web sites. As things stand now (but could change tomorrow), I would prefer a BMW over a Triumph. Not very patriotic, I know, but I'm bot even going to worry about that. Not on a Ducati forum!
Well, anyway, I definitely don't want a Triumph and will feel no guilt! I'm sticking with my plan to buy used and part-ex one of my bikes - the oldest one. I will look around local dealers and get what ever I fancy. My fault was being too choosy and technical. Biking isn't that way. It is just emotional. I will just see what is about when I'm ready - or I might buy a new KTM or Aprilia, but the standard models. If I decide to upgrade the suspension, then I'll sort that out later. The 5-10k price range is pretty certain, though. And I know what I am doing car-wise. A used Ford from one of the three nearby Ford dealers. Nothing flash - just 4 wheels and a roof. But a Ford from a Ford dealer will be Ford-Approved, with a decent warranty. I am not fiddling with it as I hate working on cars! Just the minor problem of no driving license! That really is the one that bugs me. If the Police had decided that the accident was all my fault and got me prosecuted and banned for a year, then I would have my driving license back, by now. And while being banned, I would have definitely NOT informed DVLA of the brain bleed - rightly of wrongly, for I would not of given a toss.
Was answering Vader’s post eventually you’ll make up your mind what you’re having and stop creating posts on the same repetitive subject. I haven’t bothered reading the rest of your rant, I guess it’ll be about Hastings and the DVLA.
Perry, you're going round and round. I don't think that's necessarily a good idea. Why not keep an eye out what's on the market but leave selecting a bike until you're all sorted with licence etc. Then just go for it, get out and about ride a few bikes, fondle and stroke them and make your mind up when you are in the position to get one? I'm not trying to be critical just trying to help.
That's what I do! Boring rants and I have more!!! Regarding Hastings, I no longer give a feck! I am not going to get wound up and will just concentrate of getting fitter and keeping the weight down. My sol is not worried and she doesn't get paid until I do. I realise now that this is part of the game that insurance companies play.. I've got an inheritance coming and that will pay for a new bike. And as I get fitter and stronger, I can get the valve check finished on my ST2 and fix the battery and mirrors on my ST3. The DVLA crap, I can do nothing about. I am in the queue for the driving assessment and they know that I have to do it before the end of August, when my new, provisional license expires. That is just a case of waiting. I have one driving lesson booked up soon and I shall see what the instructor says. It will be a chance to use Lydney station that I've always wanted to do. If my driving goes badly then I will just book another lesson in Lydney. I may be superficial, but the lighter mornings and evenings, together with the warmer weather, really help! And, most importantly, I should be able to make walking to the Salutation pub next week!
To keep things simple (for I am simple) with my notional upper limit of £10,100, I have these 3 bikes at the top. Kawasaki may be in there too but feck Kawa!!! Actually no, as they are a consideration and much cheaper than anything else mentioned here. Manufacturers and dealers seem to like to keep their prices secret, but this is what I've found: Ducati Supersport £12,295.00 KTM Duke £9,649.00 Aprilia RS660 £10,150.00 So the KTM is cheapest, with the Ducati £2,646.00 more. The Aprilia is £501.00 more than the KTM. I could get a Supersport for under £10k used. Both the Ducati and Aprilia benefit from full fairings, with the KTM in my price range new - although the Aprilia breaks it by only £150. Question is: is the Ducati worth so much more than the KTM and Aprilia? The Aprilia is £500 more than the KTM but does have a full fairing - whether that is worth £500 can be debated.
So to sum up (and I realise that this is primarily for my benefit and nobody else's) I could get a brand new Kawa for about £6k, a brand new KTM for £9,650, brand new Aprilia for just over £10k, and a used Ducati Sipersport for around £9k My nearest dealer is Frasers and they are Kawasaki and Aprilia, with my most visited dealer being Fowlers (coz they have a good coffee bar) who do KTM, Aprilia, and Kawasaki. I shall go and have a look.
And the Multistrada! I did discount this bike coz it doesn't have a 17" front wheel. Now all of this sh*T is behind me, I could get this one for under 10k which means that this does fit in with my broken price range of 5-10k. And buying used rather then new, puts paid to all of the crap about the V4 and what you want to go off-road is mad BHP and big weight! The only way to decide will be to wait for the return of my driving license and get out and about to look!
Help me out here. What's the point in looking at specific second hand machinery if you have no licence yet? Surely its sensible to wait until it does come back and then look at what is out there and what you are able to insure ? Anything used seen now is likely long gone in a couple of months. I am trying not to be harsh but its all just day dreaming at present ?
