Jon / Freaky, thanks for keeping us updated. Truely a scary time and it is times like these when our little community draws closer. My thoughts and best wishes remain with him and his family. If there is anything I can do to help (from down here in little old London) let me know and I'll see what I can do Matt
Not to change the subject away from Gizmo, as this thread is about his circumstances right now. However a current DOC GB member was recently involved in a motorbike accident on Sun 6th Jan 2013 and is currently Paralyzed from the chest down (we believe that his T6 is complete). He is too in a Spinal Unit in the North West and at the moment is in a Life Changing situation.. As I witnessed the accident on 6th Jan, I' was very saddened but to hear about both these incidents. Both of them are truelly great characters, I only hope they both find an alternative way. Anyway back to Michaels thread.
Best wishes to Gizmo. Thinking of him & his family. The people in the Specialist Spinal Unit at James Cook University Hospital are outstanding, hope their superb care works well for Gizmo.
Isnt there a collection of some of the fantastic pictures somewhere that Gizmo has taken over the years .............could be a great link to remind him its not his time just yet!
Probably Andy, they'll be stack of road/off-road push bike stuff plus motorbikes but its where to start that would be my problem.. Good idea though
Quick update from me from Linzi, Mikey is in good spirits and knows we're all thinking of him, he's just had some physio on his chest etc and already bored of listening to ELO, Billy Jeol and status quo in the hospital... If you know Mikey he loves his music so I can see the look on his face listening to that stuff. He's got some relatives coming over this weekend but it sounds like he might want to see some different faces in the next week or two, if anyone is interested and able to get to the hospital (Middlesborough) let me know. Once I know more I can get the visiting hours and try and co-ordinate with Linzi etc
I dont know Gizmo but good news indeed. I'm up in Middlesbrough (about 8 miles from the hospital) tomorrow but unfortunately I'll be spending all day at my parents as my dads not too well at the moment either
Hi all, Sorry I haven't provided an update for a week or so, I had planned to visit Michael at the weekend with Pibbow but Linzi informed me he was shattered. The good news is the hospital have changed the respirator which has meant he is now able to speak... Unfortunately he won't bloody shut up which is why he is exhausted lol! Linzi informed me today that they have removed the feeding tube so he now finally tasting something which must e a nice feeling again. His condition remains unchanged unfortunately although he is in good spirits, but the best news I have to share is that tomorrow Linzi and Michael are finally getting married tomorrow (at the hospital) it's a small ceremony (family only) but I'm sure they'll be photos soon, lets wish them the best for the big day and hopefully a long future together.
Is there any more of an update on Michael? Is it true he has broken his neck and is now paralysed? I also heard there is some sort of fund we could all perhaps contribute a little towards............anyone know how or where please?
Yes. I'll try and put a link up later. He is on Facebook as are Orange Mountain Bikes. Fund raising underway and donations accepted. Summary - tetraplegic, nothing from the neck down, learning to speak, control ipad, drive wheel chair etc. Tragic, but the guy is a true fighter and an inspiration.
Here for all the news. I wish him and Linzi well. I'm sure we all do. https://www.facebook.com/mrbonney?hc_location=stream
Sorry... Been a while for an update, you've found the site anyway which is great! the bad news is he is paralysed from the neck down C3 fracture, when I visited some weeks ago he was struggling a little emotionally as I'm sure we all would be, more frustration not being able to do anything really. The good news is he's in a wheelchair which he is learning to operate so at least he is mobile and an enjoy a different view and some fresh air. Updates are coming via Facebook it's easy to manage so I would suggest if you're not friends already get it done he'd appreciate the support. I hope to get over there again in a few weeks but free time is limited at the moment.
