I definitely prefer the separation of duty between the different items of equipment and I feel that it's a lot safer. Following satnav data whilst riding is already taking your attention away from the task of riding and so navigation info being interrupted by incoming texts, calls and emails is just far too intrusive, particularly when an incoming call or whatever completely covers your map screen which is unavoidable and requires you to take your hands off the handle bars and interact with the phone to clear it or to cancel the incoming call. That to me is a massive "no no". I want my Satnav to only provide Satnav duties and I don't want it to switch into another mode whilst I'm already trying to ride a bike and refer to instructions at the same time. The fact that my attention isn't already 100% on just riding means that I'm already compromised and so other activities visually impairing that process at the same time is just dangerous. You can use "airplane mode" on your phone so you don't get the interuptions, but then that defeats the point of having hands free use of your phone via your headset. With a separate satnav you can still receive that important call without it being visually distracting or needing to actually touch your phone if a call comes in. I've tried it just using a phone and it's just not as practical. I prefer my phone in my pocket, out of sight, whilst I'm riding. I recon it won't be long before a change in the law will come which will make us put our phones out of reach as they are just too distracting when they are visible. Your attention gets dragged away to your phone when something happens, whereas a Satnav does not compete for your attention and you only need to glance at it occasionally and can chose to do so when it's safe. Your phone pulls your attention the moment something happens on it.
Windows phones. Only good thing to do with them is sling them out a window at greater than 4 floors high
Hate to say it but I wholly agree. A handset with amazing potential but MS just doesn't have the appetite for a sustained campaign. A lot of my clients were just starting to invest in Windows Phones so they could use features like Continuum, but instead MS dropped support and now they've all nearly fallen back into the Apple camp, since Android devices are just not permitted in many of the environments I work in.
Well at last managed to get the Zumo 395 connected. All works great now, nearly gave up a couple of times but stuck with it. I bought the Zumo from pc world, its not a Ducati badged one. Headset & phone integrate perfectly as said above music, txt alerts & phone calls with I.D great.
Hey engineered2win, any recommendation as to what order to pair things in? I'm still trying to get mine to work properly and think it's just a matter of being patient and doing it all correctly. I have a Zumo 595, iPhone 7 and Scala Rider G9. I would love to be able to get everything working properly. Any recommendations or advice would be appreciated. Thanks
I don,t think it matters which order you pair them in as the bike once paired gives you the option window to scroll down to item you want. So headset pairing you would scroll to R headset icon & enter to store it there & so on giving it the rider headset slot. The main problem i had was the sat nav. I went to bluetooth on bike, but before hitting the pair i had the sat nav on searching too, then hit the pair button on bike. After that my sat nav came up with Ducati multimedia system. I picked that on sat nav & hit pair again, this time the bike came up with Zumo 395 in top centre of screen on bike. I scrolled to that & hit enter, after that the sat nav came up with enter pairing code which is 0000. Then hit ok on sat nav. Then the bike screen needs to know what slot so you move to the Arrow icon for sat nav & hit enter. If it comes up with your other stuff in left window on bike its done. Exit from menu & wait. It can take a minute or so to lock in so be patient. It took me maybe 10 attempts to do this & get it to work but that is how its done. Now as soon as i turn bike on all items pair automatically, although it takes a few seconds to get them all. Best of luck & lets know if you have any success.
No matter what I do I can't get my Nav (Garmin Zumo 595) to pair. My phone and comm paired up the first time and work perfectly but no matter what I do my nav just won't pair. They see each other, I select everything properly, sometimes it even pops in on the left hand side with my phone and comm but the nav says it can't connect. can anyone help? what could I possibly be doing wrong after getting everything else to work just fine? thanks guys.
Listen I am probably totally wrong with this & i hope i am for your sake. In the manual it states. Quote. Ducati does not ensure a correct connection to the Ducati Multimedia system of bluetooth navigators that are not provided in the following kit. Ducati Zumo satelite navigator 350. Ducati Zumo satelite navigator 390. Ducati Zumo satelite navigator 395. I bought a cheap chinese one & had no luck so bought a Garmin Zumo 395LM from pc world for £385. This one works. I must admit as said before it took me a while to master it. So maybe yours is ok. Also read somewhere that devices must be Bluetooth 4. Where in the country are you located.
I finally got it! It has to be done a certain way, outlined by Steviegtr above and it's all now working perfectly EXCEPT for ONE thing. No text message notifications. I can see who's calling but no text message alerts come over. I'm sure this is just a setting so if anyone knows what it is or where it is please let me know. Thanks everyone!
Figured it out in case anyone with an iPhone is interested. This is right from the owners manual: 7) I do not receive any message notification on my iPhone. Why? Select Bluetooth in the Setting Menu. In the list "My devices" select "i" next to "Ducati Media System". Flag "Show notifications".
Having a bit of time on my hands this avo, I followed the instructions from Steviegtr and Anthony and, hey presto, it is all working! Had to 'Forget Devices' links between headset, phone and Satnav initially and only loaded them up 1 at a time (ie: switched Bluetooth on devices to 'off' unless pairing). I take it all back Ducati - humble pie for my evening meal tonight!

That's great, glad you got it working. I think with a little patience and understanding of how it works and what is meant to do you'll find it's actually pretty cool.
I am chuffed you got it done. It took me a couple of days & many trips back into garage. Kept saying its got to work somehow. It did. Stupid thing is once you have done it you say well that was easy. Doh
So, unless you have a headset paired in, there's little functionality. I've got phone and satnav, both connected ok. I get caller id on the dash and text alerts - even tho I have absolutely no intention of answering the phone when riding! I don't have a headset, I was hoping I could somehow control music on my iPhone from the Ducati whilst listening on normal headphones but haven't managed to ,ale this work. Was also thinking with the Bluetooth hub that the sat across instructions could come back though my iPhone but don't think that's possible either.
Without a Bluetooth headset, there isn't much point to being connected to the system? If you want wired earplugs, you should also (or instead) pair your phone to the Satnav and get the functionality through the Nav unit?
I'm finding that the system gives off a random instruction after about 15 mins, which switches on the music player and I get that annoying U2 stuff that is for some reason installed into my iPhone 5S? Just sat reading the manual to see how to switch it off, as it was driving me crackers on Friday, trying to suss it out on the move!
I recently got a Sena 10S, and paired it to the bike along with my iPhone. I've always been reluctant to listen to music whilst riding a bike as I thought it would be too distracting, but I was pleasantly surprised as I actually found it less intrusive than I thought. However, whilst now it's nice to have the option of listening to a few sounds, I don't like the fact that when you have 'Player On' you lose the ability to change riding modes on the move as the same buttons are used to do this and play/pause/forward to next music track. OK, so you gain the ability to mess around with the sounds but this can be done on the Sena unit anyway, and I'd rather have control of the modes. I think I'll just unpair the Sena from the bike and use it direct to the phone (and other riders).
