  1. As I understand it, the only way Scotland can be "shown" to pay more tax per head is by considering the allocation of North Sea Oil revenues, and that is a subject for debate, as acknowledged by the Office for National Statistics:

UK Statistics - The Economy - ONS

And we all know that oil tax revenues are going to be disappointing for a while, compared to recent years.

  2. the only way London contributes more is from banking and financial services? need i say more.

  3. Oh the irony.

  4. It was the Scottish banks that messed up worst.

  5. thats twice you said that, and twice it's gone in one ear and oot the other. cant hear you lala lala la:upyeah::smile:

  6. Royal Bank of Scotland

    Halifax Bank of Scotland

Northern Rock and Bradford & Bingley were tiny problems in comparison.

  7. Scottish in name only and controlled by bank of England and Westminster policy but we can brush over that if you like.

  8. Nothing to do with Fred Goodwin then?

To be fair to him, others were involved:

RBS’s mad rise and catastrophic fall can’t all be blamed on Fred Goodwin | City A.M.

I don't think it is fair to say that RBS were "controlled" by the BoE and "Westminster" although a certain former Scottish Chancellor has a lot to answer for when it comes to the lax supervision, and the addiction to tax revenues from the giant banks (the drying up of which aggravated the budget deficit).

  9. a certain g.brown like all the rest of them?

  10. England gets the government it votes for. So England voted for tuition fees, prescriptions charges etc. it's not our fault.

Scotland voted for a party which had those as policies. We have PR, so with the help of other parties, those policies were implemented. Free prescriptions wasn't even SNP policy, they adopted SSP policy.

That's how democracy works. Celtic nations get no say in who forms UK gvt. It's England that decides. Suggest people stop moaning about it and vote for policies that you want. Last time round Lab/Tories must have had 60% of the vote. Both support tuition fees. How can you be surprised and feel England has a right to moan when it's England that decides

  11. RBS trading arm in London was the old NATWEST. RBS don't have traders in Edinburgh. London was the problem.

Halifax ruined Bank of Scotland, not the other way around. Until then BoS was the best business bank in the UK. That's where it made its money, supporting businesses, not trading or selling mortgages. There is a book about it called HUBRIS, which details it was run from Yorkshire by the "Haliban"
