Thanks guys.....everyone should have a response from me ;-) With the good level of interest and commitments/payments so far I'm going to go ahead and place an 'order' with Erik now (so the wait for the heat shields won't be too long)......obviously I'll be stumping up the payment for the lot up front so I'd appreciate everyone interested making your individual payments (see above;-) asap Thanks John, appreciated
Having had a crawl around my (2013) bike I am sure that the shield will fit OK. However I am not convinced that it is worth doing. The master cylinder is mounted to the same frame member as the foot-peg and centre stand so that provides a massive heat sink; the sump is to the inside of it so no great heat there. The exhaust (CAT in my case) is some way below and behind the master cylinder and could only affect it if stationary for a long period. Is the earlier model very different (it looks similar in Andy's photos above) or am I missing something? Has anyone found the cylinder hot to the touch after a run; the fluid is, after all, designed to continue to function properly when quite warm anyway - in the calipers at least. Sorry to be negative but it appears that the shield will only insulate the cylinder from heat coming from the sump (100c max?). I can't see how that achieves very much.
Andrew / Stu.....thanks Order now placed with Erik and they will be in the post to me today  DenH, thanks for that....very good points/observations and to be honest it'll take someone more technically experienced/knowledgeable than myself to answer properly. I haven't had time to read through the 23 pages of the thread on ducati.ms mentioned in my first post so there may be posts that shed more light on the subject there (and/or in the numerous threads both there and on this forum relating to poor rear brake performance....where I know the subject of brake fluid temperature has been discussed). I'm unsure if anyone has done 'real world' testing as to how hot the master cylinder gets. I agree that the frame will act as a heat sink but the ally heat shield should add to this aspect (somewhat like a cooling vane helping to dissipate heat?) as well as cutting heat transmission to the master cylinder by radiation. Its been said that the alloy side frames, footrest brackets, master cylinder mount etc remain the same. Confession..........most unlike me to not have done thorough research but seeing the popularity of the heat shield on the US forum (3rd production run) thought it would be good to jump in now, whilst Erik still has stock, to see if a deal could be done for anyone in the UK that's interested (a very good deal if you compare the US sale price).
Many thanks for the comprehensive reply Andy. I hope it does work for those that fit the shield. So far I have not had any problems - touch wood!
Yes please, i'll have one. I will paypal the money etc when i get home tonight. Ta! Good buying skills, Andy.
