Group buy - rear brake master cylinder heat shields

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by AndyW, Jan 23, 2014.

  1. I have had another look, and it definitely doesn't foul the spring or the spring post.
I tried to take pics but everything is black, so it doesn't really come out very well.

The only thing I can think of is your spring is fitted the other way around to mine (hook of spring facing backwards, not forwards, if that makes sense).

    Hope that helps.

  2. Batch 2

....your heat shields are in the post to you

    JUST ONE LEFT NOW

Use of a 'gentle' flame with care works....fag lighter is ideal ;-)

  3. arrived today, cheers Andy

  4. Mine fouled the spring but literally 2 seconds with a file sorted that. I then used a bit of permanent marker to touch up the edge, job done.

  5. And then there were two :-(
I wonder if the spring can be located in different ways e.g. rotated 180 degrees - Pete / Nige: are your stands OEM fit or fitted at a later date or been removed for the centre stand mod (lever arm to be cut down)...or removed/refitted for any other reason?

  6. Mine has arrived - many thanks AndyW.

Also my stand was fitted by Ducati and not yet had any reason to remove it so I will report the spring details when I have a look tomorrow.

  7. OK I have just had a look. With the bike on the centre stand the open side of the spring hooks face forward - that is towards the stand leg. Hope that makes sense. Not very clear but I think that is the same in AndyW's photo.

Haven' fitted the shield to check any interference yet.

  8. My centre stand has been removed and refitted a dozen times for various reasons (but not for shortening the leg). It is true that the springs can be fitted either way round, but that doesn't make any difference to how close it is to the corner of the heat shield. Like I have said before, this is not a big deal, I am not complaining, and I am certainly not seeking a refund. I just mentioned the need to do a little bit of filing-down for peoples' information. No need to make a fuss!

  9. Thanks again Pete............just in my nature to want to get to the bottom of these things, can't stand the unresolved
I know you're not making a fuss (and thanks again for that) - I'd have expected legal papers through the post if you were lol

As you can see, it would not be any better if the spring were the other way round, so that is a red herring. I have filed off the absolute minimum to allow the heat shield to clear the spring by a whisker.

  11. I wonder if there is some variance in these brackets then Pete, because mine is not tba close.

  12. More likely variations in the bike John! lol..............possible I suppose but as the heat shields are laser cut via a CAD/CAM system I imagine the tolerances are pretty close. Certainly seeing multiple shields stacked up I did not notice any variations (didn't have my glasses on though).

  13. Been told that one of the guys who had one from the batch I took had to modify his slightly too.

Sounds like there needs to be a mk2 heat shield

  14. That's the thing John, these were the MKII.....adapted for bikes with centre stands!
That's 3 now - I'll pass on comments to Erik again.

  15. righty ho lets put this issue of the bracket not fitting to Bed, I got round to fitting mine today its a 62 plate S touring with factory fitted centre stand, right here we go, I took out the 2 bolts that hold the master cylinder and brake switch lined the bracket up, and it would not line up as the centre stand spring was in the way, initially I tried to pull the spring over, then thought about putting the centre stand up, and working off the side stand, and Viola it lines up, very close to the spring but it lines up, pics below before and after stand put up 1 bracket.jpg

    2 bracket.jpg

hope this is of help :upyeah:

  16. Thanks for the pics satzoomer. I'm currently working abroad at the moment so won't get to fit mine for a while. Apologies if this is a 'bone' question but I take it the bracket then sits behind the spring once tightened up when you put the Mutley back on the centre stand?

  17. As per the pic above it touches the edge of the spring when the bikes put up on centre stand couldn't. Hear any scraping of materials so looks to be ok, probably could do with a few mm taken off edge by the spring, if I was being picky

And should have cleaned the bike before I took the photos it's shockingly dirty sorry all

  18. I have just joined this forum today. I wanted to know if the MTS heat shield is still available? I know that this thread was from February.
