GT to buy or to wait? That is the question.

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by jcmental, Oct 8, 2013.

  1. Pfft that's probs what I'll do I'm no good a batering, you missed "plan of attack, census and coin toss"

  2. You boys have too much cash if you're not up to negotiating. Lucky you

  3. ...don't get me wrong I'm not a millionaire far from it. I choose to spend money on Ducati's and not on carpet or furniture for the house etc!
Re; bike buying and haggling, I get the feeling that people beat the dealer up over the price! Biking is largely a leisure activity (although I do commute) as such buying a bike should be a pleasurable experience.

  4. Ok here's the up shot.

On my way to Brans Hatch this Saturday at 9.55, I stopped in at DCM Ducati in Preston and told the half awake shop assistant :-

(me) I'd like to buy a bike please.
    (him) Oh ok witch one?
(me) A Multistrada S Granturismo please.
    (him) now?
(me) No I can wait for it I'm in no rush.
(him) (picks up the phone and phones some body). Would you like next years model there doing them in red?
(me) Yes please, I wanted a red one and was toying with just getting the S Tourer instead, but wanted the GT extras so was going to settle for grey but red sounds much better.
(him) Well they wont be available until January but I can order you one now if you like.
(me) That's fine I'm in no rush, I'll take a red one. but I want u to fit a tracker and an intercom please and I want the extra warranty as well plz.
(him) (Takes a few notes) Right I'm guna need a deposit
(me) Sod the deposit I'll pay for it all now plz
    (him) ok cool thank you

4 mins later I have a receipt in my hand and a red S GT on order and the 4 year wait is almost over.

Total time in shop 12 mins job done

  5. You didn't haggle? At all? Christ, I'd have walked out of there with at least a grand's worth of accessories gratis:eek:

  6. I'm not that bothered to be honest, I think their throwing in a free satnav. I got a 6 figure sum for my accident from 4 years ago I was expecting less than half of what I got So I have treated my self to this and a new Kuga, one of my sons to a new 125 and my other I'm putting through his driving test and getting him a small car. My wife is looking at getting a new Hypermotard. I'm getting a big porch built on the front of my house as there is no rear access. that will still leave me with more than I though I was going to get in total, so I'm more than happy.

  7. .....ah taken the plunge, I guess the porch can wait? Wise choice,ha.
That's exactly how I would of purchased it (well probably could of done it in 10mins if the sales person was fully awake:redface:!bless). No point beating the sales person up over the deal!...Most people with our experience and knowledge know the facts and figures.....it's all about getting a fair/reasonable deal for both parties.People forget the value in making the decision to change, it's not all about the money!! There's value in the grin it's going to put on your face when you twist that throttle!!
I'll take the credit for persuading you with my pictures.
Not sure about the red unless it still looks exclusive, with specific badging etc. Do you know what it's going to look like? It may be Matt red?...that would be horrid! It's definitely the trend to produce Matt colours now, cycles/cars/bikes.
I guess all will be revealed at Milan/NEC show.
Are there any other changes announced?

    GT best bike ever!

Currently sourcing Ohlins rear shock for my 848..not quite out of the sports bike game yet!.....Ducati....love it....the only real partner you need in life!Ha:eek:

  8. Yep money just money, you cant take it with ya, I'd rather get what I want with out the hassle and embarrassment of battering over a few quid. plus if I need to go back for any thing I know there guna be thinking Oh here's that soft touch treat him nice ;-)

  9. Russ must have thought it was his birthday!! I hope the tracker, intercom and extra warranty were chucked in with the deal??

  10. Well done JCmental, Its a cracking bike, you wont be disappointed, I admire your patience, there is no way I could have waited that long. (red ones are faster bye the way)

I bought the ST in red with the touring screen and spots, reckon I can live without the risers, bigger cases and comfy seat.

Bang on, its only money, there's more to life although it helps:upyeah:
