Gutted

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Diggler, Jun 2, 2012.

  1. You do talk a lot of sense and raise a valid point about the noise limit and that on some circuits it would struggle and that is a concern to me.

The Aprilla, Ive had a mate that raced one, loved the bike but was let down by aftermarket service and struggled with parts. Yes parts may be a problem with the 1199 but I have the upmost faith in both Riders and JHP.

As for going for the Base or the S Ive done my figures, buying selling swopping and changing etc.

  2. I dunno, as a track bike the Panigale does not make sense. It is too loud to get on circuit, too expensive to bin, and no additional performance over a well set up 5k track slag the owner isn't afraid to drop/lowside. Performance wise, it doesn't outgun the S1000rr or offer the predictability of a Blade. No proven race heritage either.

As a road bike, it is a very nice bike but that is about it.

  3. A blade or zx10 make perfect sense, money obviously isn't the issue. The passion wasn't there when he rode the 1199. From His Posts he obviously has lots of track experience both himself and his mates.

I think diggler answered his own question. The 1199s doesn't make sense as a track toy for so many reasons.

  4. Well you are half right.

  5. Steve you have added a bit of clarity to my decision its kind of what Ive been looking for, your right in saying this bike does not make sense as a track/race bike. I’m just gutted its not though, as a bike I think its a big leap forward just like the first R1 or early Fireblade and theres no denying it looks fantastic.

  6. but wheres the corrolation and logic between riding a road spec mass produced (even in ducati numbers) bike on the road compared to a bike set up for your personal taste and style let alone the carpet flat track...........

  7. holy shit when did we move to the USA??????? ....... ITS LIKE DUCAT.MS IN HERE .........give him a break , feel free to rip into me tho ..........i like it

  8. Don't get me wrong it's a stunning bike the 1199. But track tool? The 1199s makes even less sense with expensive unnecessary suspension electronics.

Ultimately depends what your objective is I suppose.

As you know 10k buys a lot of track
    Prepp'd blade, gixer or r1.

Talking of Riders, I think they have one of martins race Hondas for sale or if u feeling really flush one of their 1098rs bsb spec bikes.

  10. I dont want to dwell on this too much as its not what this thread is about but, I was not the pace setter for the test ride, and I certainly wasnt going to criticize as the sales guy was doing me a favor. Yes riding above the national speed limit is illegal and irresponsible and Im sure no one else on the forum would do such a thing. In fact I am an advocate for track riding its the best way you will learn about your machine and your riding in a relatively safe environment.
Did I check the bike over, briefly although I have faith in the dealership not to let a bike out with flat tires, did I check the suspension setting yes.
The vague feeling was apparent at speeds of 70ish in the corners, I dont think this would have been noticed at a lower speed.

Would I want to do the TT no it has never appealed, Ive though about racing Aberdare, but I think Ill stick to my club racing, although If you want me to have a bash and are willing to give up your Ducati Im up for it just dont expect the bike or me back in one piece.

  11. 40k for the 1098 with regular engine refreshes no ta

Ive had a big bang R1 which I didnt like at all and moved on to a 09 Blade which was great but was a little souless, and it ate its gearbox. Ever since jumping from an R6 Ive been struggling to find the right bike. And no I dont want to go back to an R6 I spent 3 years racing them.

  12. I've just got an R6 for the track :)

  13. Whens your next outing ?

  14. It's getting it's maiden voyage on the 7th at Silverstone Gp (which I've never ridden)

Just spent the last day (and will do today) putting R&G on, changing front sprocket -1, removing bits and had some Racetecs fitted.

Im quite looking forward to going from a thou to a screaming R6 :)

  15. Like I said, depends what your objective is. You obviously have access to funds beyond most track day Junkies. U have race experience and have spent time on uk & foreign tracks. So u know your shit and your definition of a track day is far beyond most of us....

As much as It Pains to Admit it, U know this year the track bike to have is a zx10....

    Nw200 superstock - three zx10 in top 4
Current metzeller superstock 2 of top 4

    Gutted is right!!!!

  16. Lol if I was gonna throw away my bike, all my spare coins, my marriage, my dignity & my Internal organs it would be to ride Aberdare myself. Sorry

  17. nw200 is more like a short circuit than a proper road race so its top speed
and acceleration rather than hadling that usually wins.

  18. True enough phantom, but zx10 pedigree is there in bsb, wsb, road racing. And on the decision making stakes I suppose the information is no more or less valuable than a road based test ride for diggler on the 1199. He's ridden one on track and must've been sufficiently impressed to be considering it as a potential purchase.

Having tracked my road going 848 (knowing full well I couldn't afford the consequences) I can't comment on how I would make the decision to have a top grade track bike myself as I never have and likely never will have the sort of money to find out. (or the time or the talent to justify it )

  19. I'd like to have the money for any track bike...even a 125 lol
my friend has a zx10 road bike and track bike and although he
says he loves it he says it always feels like the bike will bite
back hard if you get it ever so slightly wrong.I think what his
point is, is it doesnt install confidence, maybe thats him coming
from a very planted stable f/blade to it.

  20. I must be getting old as Ive chosen the sensible option, if you can call a ZX10 sensible.

I now have a £1000 still with Ducati, as they are unlikely to just give me a refund is anyone interested in ordering any goods from them, and Ill give you 10% discount eg: you needs a £1000 switch, Ill buy it and you pay me £900 so you get a 10% saving.
