Guy Martin Day In Court

  1. He’d have been shot there !

  2. Soooo, how come it is taking so long

Motorbike racer and TV presenter Guy Martin has denied having a fake Irish driving licence.

Mr Martin, 37, appeared at Lincoln Crown Court earlier and pleaded not guilty to two charges.

He is charged with possession of a driving licence with intent to deceive and making a false statement by claiming he had an Irish licence.

Mr Martin, of Barnetby, Lincolnshire, was granted unconditional bail ahead of a trial on 1 July 2019.

    Latest news from across Lincolnshire

He denied possession of a document with intent to deceive between 4 December 2017 and 15 May relating to "a document so closely resembling an Irish driving licence as to be calculated to deceive".

Mr Martin also denied making a false statement between 1 March and 15 May 2018 claiming he was the holder of an Irish driving licence for the purpose of obtaining a UK licence.

  3. So, is the sub text to this that Guy Martin doesn't hold a valid drivers license, as previously he (allegedly) said he held an Irish one; and therefore all the truck driving was done illegally or possibly these stories of truck driving are make believe?

  4. Yes, but how he attained a UK one with his false Irish one that appears not to have been an attempt at a false one I don't know - confused - but why is it taking so long as if it was us it would be done and dealt with pronto

  5. Is the penalty for driving without a licence less than fraudulently applying for a license? Perhaps he will admit to driving without a license in some kind of plea bargain to avoid the fraud aspect?

Totally bizarre that anyone promoting themselves to fame for driving would do so without a driving license. Anyone can get one in Mexico - for example - by paying a fee of £20, no test, no questions whatsoever.... he could have had a week in the sun and covered himself by buying one.

  6. Has to be a European licence to be converted to a valid uk licence , an American licence is not even valid in Ireland after 6 months living here . I like martin but surely he knew the UK would contact our licence authority before converting to a valid UK licence ??

  8. True, but if Martin had a license from any country at all he could say he thought it was OK to drive using it - at least he could claim it was an error. To talk about driving on TV when you definitely do not have any kind of license is frankly batshit crazy...

  17. My 1st Irish licence was my. Provisional. I could drive a 40 ton artic with L plates on without a instructor. Once I passed my test I could ride a motorcycle up to 50cc. Oh & a camel. whilst drunk. as long as it was Guiness.

  19. Do camel’s like a drop of Guinness, or is that the difficult bit, getting them drunk?

  20. Just to jump in on this.
When I was working in Saudi I got a motorcycle driving licence (no training was given) I didn't have a UK licence, so when I used to come back to the UK on holiday I used to ride my UK bike on my Saudi licence with a international driving permit. I always felt like it was a bit dodgy doing this because I am a UK citizen, I have a UK address, UK registered bike to that address and insurance on the bike. I always thought if the Police pull me would they except my Saudi licence (bearing in mind its all in Arabic) or because I am a UK citizen I should have a UK driving licence?
Since then I have passed my UK test and I don't need to worry about it.
