I think they're renewed interest in the Falklands only happened when massive oil reserves were found recently....

But repetition is the point. Its basically a comedy sketch show where the same joke is repeated with a different set. The fact we all know what's coming is part of the gag. Its a well used formula because it works. The only special that fell flat was the Indian one because the presenters somehow managed to mock the country rather than themselves as is usual practise. Long may the TG specials continue. And Clarkson's surreal mock road tests. Like his fox hunting trip in a 4X4, the Renault hatch-back he drove off the dock at Belfast with Ross Kemp in the back and the Reliant Robin challenge. No need to change a thing.

Mary Hinge - I have worked in the Falklands for over two years, and have always found the locals to be courteous, helpful, pleasant people. It's true that several companies have found oil - mostly in deep water, and difficult to get to. The extent of the reserves has yet to be fully established. The current "renewed interest" has a little to do with the oil, but much more to do with distracting attention away from Argentina's chronic financial situation, corrupt government and general abuse of human rights - pretty much as it was in 1982. Fortunately the current military presence in the Falklands is more than enough to deter Argentina's potential military aggression.
The Argentinian claim to the Falklands is preposterous. Not only have the islands never been Argentinian territory, they have been British longer than Argentina has been Argentina.
