  1. A good reminder to many (Advikaz) while drivers still bang on about safety.
One very shall we say lucky guy today is not currently being measured up for a wooden suit!

  7. 18 seconds apparently. From impact to that shot of him jumping the Armco. That’s a looooong time.... an endorsement of the clothing and cars. Incredible....

  9. Quite possibly, but Niki Lauda had that too and was back in t he car racing within several weeks, IIRC.

All the BS waffled about F1 being 100% safe, anyone could do it blah blah should be seen in the stark reality. These drivers get in the cockpit knowing this is very possible every time they race.

  10. Restart

and now someone’s rolled it haha

These boys had their weetabix this morning

  11. Tbf serious incidents such as this are rare nowadays. 20-30 years back this sort of thing happened every race....

  13. Still boring as mud though and very much why the sport is dying so quickly. I recall a press conference a few years back when a few of the top current drivers also stated it was boring.

:poop: If you want ultimate safety. Take up tiddlywinks :mask:

Murray summarised it for me talking about road racing. If it was safe, most of the riders wouldn't do it and it wouldn't be the spectacle that it is. Much like the Ring.

  14. Totally agree with you, Jules Bianchi was the last death in 2015. It was much worse in the seventies.

But watch this and say its no big deal.

Crashing head on at high speed -enough to snap the car in half- and then climbing out through fire. Not easy.

  15. I bow to your superior motor sport activity but I just don’t find F1 boring. The whole thing, the racing itself, strategies, the young guns, the spectacle, I’ve always loved it tbh

  16. Yeah I watched it live. Called the wife into the man cave, I said this guy’s dead. Super relieved and amazed to see him emerge from the fireball. Like that liquid metal fucker in Terminator

  17. Safety is a paramount importance irrespective of how many wheels the vehicle has. No one wishes for a return to the times of drivers or riders being killed and maimed in the pursuit of their game. It’s the same at topflight, club or even trackday level. Why else do people spend good money on trying to limit any consequences of an incident even if not in a racing environment. We take a dim view of guys with show cages, hookey harnesses, cheap budget helmets.
Even road racers want some decent safety kit !
Tell me you don’t use the best safety kit you can get and why?

  18. I think the point Adam was making was that it has become boring! Obviously nobody wants to see anyone hurt in any sport and of course any and all safety equipment available should be used but that doesn’t alter the fact that it’s boring!

  19. Boring maybe. But then everyone is different in that some find football, cricket, tennis etc boring. But the conversation drifted to safety and at the end of the day these guy know a freak accident could kill or maim them. I don’t see it’s a good viewpoint to deride good safety or ever to stop trying to maintain the sport with inbuilt safety.
it’s also not compulsory to watch or comment in an almost bitter and twisted way that Adam does at times. But we love him really !-)

  20. I’m not disagreeing with you doogalman; I find cricket ,golf, loads of things boring and I appreciate different people like different things ! I used to enjoy watching formula one but would rather snog waynetta slob now than watch it! I don’t believe for one minute anyone on this forum would deride the use of the very best safety equipment available and much less like to see anyone get hurt! I don’t really know the answer regarding F1 as I know it had to become safer but as I said earlier in doing so by it’s very nature it’s become boring! You could argue that when moto gp finished with the 2 stroke monsters it would also become boring but I think everyone would agree that even with the better equipment , airbag suits etc and better electronics and so on it’s become far from boring!
