Hamilton Spoiler!

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Arquebus, Nov 6, 2020.

  1. Mercedes stopped updating their car this season to concentrate on next season. Meanwhile Red Bull and Honda chucked everything at this seasons car. It wasn't until the championship was slipping away, that Merc woke up and updated this seasons car. We'll see how competitive Red Bulls engine is next season, when Honda aren't updating it.

  2. I'm not sure really what you're wanting to say?. Merc made up their own minds on how to run their team this season, as they do every season. RB did the same, as did every other team. Some decisions were good, some not so. All decisions made contributed to the final standings of the drivers and constructors championships.

Next season is another series, with different cars, and the teams will make their choices. Just like every season. It may turn out that Merc lost '21 season through not developing their car, but that leads to their having a better chance in '22.
    Time will tell.

  4. The last time RB won the championship was with Vettel the year before the Hybrid. They threw everything at that car while the rest were developing the new cars
RB were nowhere for a long time in the Hybrid era. Have they done the same again and know it. And is that why the team kicked up such a fuss over every little thing as they knew it was their only chance for a few more years

  5. Yes, it would have fucked MV up having to get past 4 or 5 stragglers AND LH in one lap. No chance. The rest is history. Entertaining it definitely was :D

As Masi said, we're car racing.

When he comes out of shock he'll have plenty to say

  7. So you're saying it's the best/fastest car then?

  8. If RB sensed that Merc and the other competitors would not contest the 2021 championship as hard and exploited that opportunity, then surely thats a great winning strategy?

I think you're saying RB pushed the hardest in 2021 (whilst Merc & co used this season to win in 2022) so RB deserve to win.

  9. Mercedes almost pulled it out the fire. During the COTA race I remember LH over the radio saying MV was too fast, nothing he could do. The championship was clearly slipping away. Then Mercedes popped 'that' engine in. 10 place grid penalty? No problem. Despite the point delta in favour of MV, bookies immediately had Hamilton odds on for the championship. MV didn't see which way he went for the next three races....

  10. It’s fun being on ignore as I get half a story.

  11. I'm saying that Hamilton is no Senna or Schumacher for talent, and neither is Verstappen. Imo the difference between the 2 of them now is Verstappen wants it more, and will drive dirtier to get it. If it wasn't the car it's very unlikely Hill or Button would have been world champions.

  12. I remember a journalist saying the difference between F1 and MotoGP is that in F1 it’s 70% car and 30% the driver. In MotoGP, it’s 70% rider and 30% the bike.

  13. I don't think there's many that retire from bike racing without a long term health consequence of some sort.

  14. I disagree there, Hamilton easily matched those 2 on Talent in my opinion. Every lap he calculates what he and others are doing as well as driving the car and twizzling all those switches on the steering wheel. I think he’s a fantastic driver and I’m proud he drives under the Union Jack.

  15. If I was to be any good at Moto GP it would have to be 99.9999% bike!

  16. After what he did to Hill, and Villenueve, I'm no fan of Schumacher. But he played a big part in dragging Ferrari up from also rans. And Senna would drive away from Hamilton in the wet, which is a true measure of car control.

  17. Agree with Schuey and Ferrari, let’s face it, we’ll never know, people say Jim Clarke was the best ever, Fangio etc.

  18. I don't think we'll ever know the full story about Senna's death. Looked like the steering broke to me...
