This was on my 1200 but the 1260 is just the same. I was a it rough with the hacksaw but it is all hidden.
Yes it helps. I also now have a Cool Cover fitted which has several advantages - an extra, springy, non-slip layer, cool airflow in hot conditions, and no more sitting in a puddle when it rains. Recommended.
