Has any manufacturer improved on the Multi Decat pipes?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by hadidmax, Jan 17, 2014.

  1. Leo Vince de-cat pipe baffle has been delivered. First impression, is that all ? Second impression and this no reflection on Moto GB who have been great, how bloody much ? The question about fitting has also been answered, the baffle is made to slide into the OE end can not the de-cat pipe work so it won't fit any other end can that isn't the same internal diameter as the OE end can. The quality is good but is it worth the rrp of £50+vat ? IMO absolutely not. Have I been done by Leo Vince ? Probably not but I feel short changed. Can't be arsed to refit the OE end can with the baffle because the bike has already been off the road for far too long and I want to get out and ride it so in the fullness of time I'll report back or sooner if I get pulled with the Akrapovic fitted :). 2. SPECIAL OFFER! (and I mean special!!)

    Ben's Decats

To date there's been great feedback on the quality of construction, fit and service but what Ben really needs to prove his design/build and promote his 'Decat' for the Multistrada 1200 is some reliable data on its performance.

Pretty much everyone knows of Chris / CJS Racing's top notch reputation for dyno tuning/ECU remapping and the work he has done with a large number of MTS1200's with various exhaust setups - obviously the ideal man to asses Ben's decat and remap the fueling etc to suit. A deal has been struck.........

For one lucky person only (one person in reserve also required) there's the following superb offer:

    # 1 x Ben decat system........FREE! (saving of £270!! [after forum discount;-])

    The terms and conditions:

    # the decat pipework will be fitted by Rich at Louigi Moto (where Chris/CJS and the dyno is based)
......cost to be confirmed (Chris is out of the office this week so will negotiate a good price with Rich next week on his return - I will post asap)

    # you will have to pay for the day on the CJS dyno and the remapping of your bike's ECU.....at a reduced bargain price of £350 (a discount of more than £100;-)

And a video by Zed3 who fitted one of Ben's decats recently:

  3. Andy

Thanks for all that-makes sense. Am away till next week so hope to get the decat fitted soon after. Did you have to trim the decat pipe to allow fitting of the Akropovic? Also interested in how the motor runs without retuning the ECU? I have thought about a visit to CJS since first owning a multi ( 3 years now) so probably will fulfill this! AndyWs offer is good but too late now as have the Leo Vince in waiting!

  4. That's one hell of an offer and I would be up for it but........I'm not home (Emerald Isle) until the beginning of July and unlikely to have the bike in that neck of the woods until September.....Bollocks! :Banghead:

Someone's going to get a real deal out of this.

  5. AndyW I might be interested in this as I was thinking about buying his decat pipe but a few question's, my bikes not a 12month old yet and has 2000 miles on the clock. Would the dyno work put a strain on the not yet really run in engine and would the fuel remap have repercussions on the warranty.
    p.s. I haven't chosen a silencer yet.

  6. Okay, so no I didn't shorten the Leo Vince de-cat pipe work. The Akrapovic end can clamp didn't quite reach the locating pin so I made up a link piece that went under the exhaust clamp and located over the pin. I have a different and simpler mod having given more though to it involving adding a second Jubilee clip. When it is finished I'll post some pictures. The transition from tick over to throttle open is a little hesitant but I have not had the chance to take the bike out for a proper run but will on Saturday so I'll let you know. The longer term plan is to have the ECU flashed by Moto Rapido. Andy

  7. @broke
Mileage - not sure personally, that's a good question, one for Chris (@CJS).....he should answer here soon ;-)

Warranty - a difficult one, I think that from a legal point of view unless there was evidence that the remapping of the ECU was responsible for an engine component or related failure you would have no problem however imho opinion I think it very likely that Ducati would try and say your Warranty was invalid regardless and then you'd be in a position of having to fight for your case. Of course it's unlikely that Ducati would be aware of the remapping unless the ECU was sent back to Italy for detailed checks.

Silencer - OE silencer or Termi Carbon stubby are a straight fit for the decat, I have no idea what the situation re fitting any other end can......most possibly not a straight forward fit (see the discussions above re fitting an Akro can to an LV decat;-)

  8. I'll take the offer Andy. I was just contemplating a full termi but wincing at the cost.

I have a 2013 just over a year old with 6000 miles on it.

Another benefit is that I am not working so can get down almost anytime at shortish notice though I am up in Cheshire so a bit of travelling and probably accommodation organise. I know Chris as I had my 2011 remapped.

Let me know if I am the 'winner'.

  9. I would just add that I would like the option of keeping the centre stand if possible. Has Ben sorted out a lug for the stop?

  10. You are indeed the 'winner' Den :D
Not sure what the final solution was for the centre stand stop - I'll get Ben to contact you for a chat ;-)

Drop me an email with all your contact details and I'll pass that on to Ben and Chris

  11. Okay, so we did about 80 miles this morning and with the Leo Vince de-cat pipework, Akrapovic end can for OE exhaust and stock air filter fitted, I found that at steady speeds 3rd, 4th and 5th gears were much more useable between 30 and 60mph. Where I would usually be in 2nd or 3rd the bike was much more comfortable in 3rd, 4th or 5th in the rev band between 2500 and 4000 rpm. The engine is certainly very smooth and there is a feeling of more urgency as you accelerate through the mid range. Over the 80 miles I calculated that the petrol consumption improved by approximately 10%, I guess because I was in a lower gear more of the time. The only negetives at the moment are that the transition from tick over to acceleration is occasionally lumpy or hesitant, the improvement in mid range delivery will negate the better consumption because its just so much more fun going up and down the box :) and biggest of all, the loudness. Dropped in to Moto Rapido on the way round and I was told that the noise of my arrival shook the workshop walls so a bespoke db baffle is definitely on the agenda. Just finished fitting a Sprint high flow air filter so I'll see what difference that makes when the pissing rain stops. Andy

  12. Sprint high volume air filter fitted and a run out completed. I can definitely say that the addition of the air filter has made another positive improvement. Revs useable as low as 2000 in 3rd and more responsive throughout the rev range. Even without an ECU update the improvement is remarkable and I can accept claims in an earlier post that the 1200s could make 150 rwhp is a real possibility. Big grin today because I feel like I have a new toy to play with and the run home was some of the most enjoyable riding I've had that's not been on the track. Andy

Air filter + Quat D's with baffles in = 148 at the rear wheel. Chris (CJS) has seen north of 150.
    Hope the piccy uploaded ok!

  14. Nice. If I may, who did it for you and how much did it cost ? Andy

  15. It was done by CJS near Bristol. It's 3/4 of a day on the dyno, very thorough. Chris is a great bloke and I can't recommend him highly enough. Price was circa £400. Bike is transformed, throttle response is so accurate, especially when you're operating in the higher rev range, I was never too confident "at pace" but now just grin from ear to ear, does play havoc with consumption but who cares!

  16. Too many critics with the LV decat/Akrapovic setup so I've spoken with Mark at MHP about designing a db baffle. In the mean time I have refitted the OE end can with the LV decat pipe db baffle and whilst it is still not as manly as the Akrapovic end can, it has presence and is much more more sociably acceptable. Andy

  17. Hi rivits, I looked up the Quat D set up but am i right in thinking its around the €1900 mark? Does it include a decat pipe and can you keep a mainstand with it?
    Thanks

  18. Hi, it's a full system except for the header pipes so it does include the decat pipe.
It is fine with centre stand, I have one fitted.
As far as price I bought mine second hand from a forum member so not sure what retail is

  19. Thanks rivits. Imo best looking pipes so far (other than the full termi's Ihad fitted to my Diavel! ) :)

  20. They sound pretty good too!
