Don't be too relaxed about the regulation/legislation issues, China is catching up fast. The company I work for has a factory in Shenzhen, and they follow the local rules and have to meet H & S, environmental and other intrusive legislation. The fact that their labour rates are lower, and they are pretty good at volume production makes them cheaper. That said, quality has been a sore point for many companies, but this is now changed as they are now adopting ISO quality systems. Most of the big companies manufacture in China, Apple probably being the most well known, either in their own plant, or with sub contractors. If you want cheap get stuff from Vietnam, Indonesia, Pakistan and India, even the Chinese are worried about being undercut!!
