As you know, Mr R was correcting your error in suggesting a rebore. If it goes without saying, why did you suggest it?
looks a lot like good old-fashioned detonation and I suspect the condition of the corresponding spark plug could add to the story.
Trust me, if it's got a broken compression ring or a cracked / holed piston it will show up on a compression tester... You only need to turn it over a few times on the starter motor to do the test, not actually run the engine. Given that it's a pretty safe bet that the front barrel is going to have to come apart anyway ( from the symptoms you have described ) you may choose to just skip the test and start pulling the motor apart anyway. Hope you get it fixed without too much pain / cost...
Happy to be of help where I can. If you're into mens boobies, Im sure I can set up a sub section just for you
That should be the best result you could have hoped for under the circumstances, new piston and no other problems.
Thats good news Nelson. But why did the piston crack? Thats what I would be asking. Manufacturing fault? Detonation? Makes me worry about my 1198.
New piston then. Better to do both with upgraded ones. Get them balanced. You should google to see if its a common occurrence.

I'm fitting a low mileage second hand piston +rings, then its gaskets (which are fucking daylight robbery!)
What are the two 'blobs' of metal in the inlet recess? Did your plug tip melt? I hope that's your only damage. Good luck with the repair.
