I agree with you about Hawick and Newcastleton being better than Hartside. Everyone raves about Hartside but the western side just doesn't flow on a bike, it is very scenic though.
My wife and I have an understanding..........of sorts. I buy new bikes and bits for bikes and she says "is that new ?" Of course, I have a simple answer and that is "no love, I've had it ages". She knows I'm being less than totally truthful, just as she's less than totally truthful when I see loads of Hobbs bags arrive and I say "been buying new clothes/shoes/handbags* love ?" (*delete as appropriate). Of course she says the same as me. It's a charade and part of married life. However, it would be easier for me to arrange a standing order with my bike dealer with the amount of money I spend there. At least my wife, bless her, only buys stuff in the sales.
