Rode my mates 2011 PP back to back with my dvt and the grips on the earlier model are red hot in comparison to the new dvt. That said, I'm happy with mine on the dvt through my winter gloves. My dealer said the earlier models were higher output but had a tendency to burnout and need replacing which was why they thought the dvt ones were slightly less powerful - seems like speculation to me rather than fact though.
