  1. Yes - the optimate lead plugs into the Euro 5 socket under the seat. you can buy the complete lead ready made for about £12 IIRC so I didn't bother making one. You can find the Euro5 pin out online quite easily if you want to make your own. I just brought the lead out under the seat to the rear cowl and used some velcro to keep it in place (in one of the vent holes) when I'm riding it.
Nice job snagging a bike you already put most of the miles on!

  2. It’s normally called either the DDA (Ducati Data Analysis) connector which can be connected to a GPS enabling the lap timer and data logger. quite an expensive option (fairly sure my son has this tucked away in his garage from his old V4R) otherwise it’s called a SICMA plug (brand name) and i bought a couple back then sonI have one knocking around and lots of the pins.
Back then I think the leads were costing north of £25 each which was a rip off!

  3. I have one of these leads but it’s more convenient, neater and cheaper to simply run a fly lead straight off the battery as per most other bikes. And there is something worrying about using a socket designed for something else to input a charge. Or is that just me?
Mine is in the drawer of my toolbox with a fly lead on the bike.

  4. Optimate call it the Euro 5 (6-pin) and the cable is an O77 (SAE to EURO 5). SICMA is the connector system range name. Lead cost me £15 - I think the recommended retail is 17.99. If you already have the 6-pin and the SAE connector then I can see the sense in using them although it is quite a good idea to add the inline fuse IMO.
Respectfully disagree with Jack about the neatness and convenience of running a fly lead off the battery - I'll take a pic of my installation 'cos I reckon it's pretty neat and I didn't have to remove any of the fairing panels to fit it.

  5. Looking forward to the pic. I did have it on my V4s and agree it’s obviously no hassle to fit. But it’s only the Lower fairing panel so not really difficult. I did mine in about 10 minutes. I will post a pic too and then there is a comparison.
Looks like the lead is cheaper now than it used to be - I stand corrected on that.

  6. Image uploaded. Nice thing about this is I just connect the optimate to the rear so no cables to the side or around front of the bike - less to trip over in the garage!

Optimates up by the roof to avoid cables ;)
I will stick with my setup I think.

  9. Yours looks fine as well - to each their own I think.

  10. I did that with my last Bike (Honda CBR650R) and O have the lead off that with ring connectors and a suitable fuse. May well use that again for charging. Might use the DDA connector or the battery direct for connecting USB power but want to find a switched live and use that through a relay to cut the USB power when the ignition is off.
The will power a Quad lock wireless charger for my phone as a GPS.
