Just ordered from pinlock.co.uk (£1 cheaper than racevisors!), so can look forward to being wet but fog free.
ive used Arai lids for years. ive owned AGVs previously but when i got my first Arai (Quantum Harada rep) i never went back. I had a big off with the HArada lid and it had a nice scrape down the side and onto the visor (which i still use to this day on my current RX7. The best thing about Arais is that you dont really know that youre wearing one..no lifting at high speed, the vents work, the linings can be removed and washed etc. plus the service from arai at the race meets is second to none. They replaced a broken chin vent and gave the old lid a full tune up for free once when i took it to the helmet park trailer they had set up at Donington. They changed the shell shape on the Quantum and the newer ones were purgatory, that why i went with the RX7..i tried Shoei's (which i think are nicer looking lid) but they were excruciating for my neanderthal brow bone. I believe that Suomy use Arai shells, not sure which models in the range so they should be a good lid, but they dont use different shells for each helmet size like Arai do, instead, they fit more of less internal padding, as do the other makes as far as im aware. My RX7 is coming up for 5 years old (still looks and feels new) so i guess its coming up to the time to replace it. Does anyone recommend a replacement after 5 years or is there more life in the old dog yet??
I was in the same position as you when it came to replacing my old RX7 Corsair, there was only one replacement i even considered. Another RX7 though this time it was the RX7-GP. Have i made a rod for myself by buying top of the range Arai's? Probably, But atleast i know i'm getting quality
Helmet change seems to be down to following factors: How old How many hours you've spent in it (ie no. of miles) Where you store it (in the dark, in a cool place). Whether you've biffed it. I don't think it's necessary to change a 5 year old top of the range helmet that hasn't had 10s of thousands of miles use, which has been kept in the dark in a coolish place and been kept clean. But then some people just like the buzz of new stuff. I am now certain that there will be a zillion people who disagree with me. That's fine. There's a zillion people who disagree with me about most things.
Just bought the new Schuberth C3 Pro, looks and feels the part, haven't got to use it yet but will report back when I have done some miles in it
Snickers, please. Or several packets of ibuprofen for all the aches from a very long ride with damaged ribs. it did work, though. Very pleased with it. Next to try 470's idea with candle wax on the outside.
Although I just bought a Caberg Konda Hi Viz Flip Front, it has been returned owing to bad fit.........or rather, not bad fit, but as it should have been a Medium size (it said so on the box, label on the back of the helmet, visor etc; on close examination the inside liner was an XL....so I spoke to the importers and they told me that Caberg use an XL shell for Medium and above......what I didn't tell him was that the XL label was on the lining......... ..........so they just effectively confirmed to me that the helmet was in fact an XL mislabelled as a Medium.....Not good and that's put me right off Caberg. Tried other flip fronts, MT etc...better than Caberg and lower cost......but then I started looking at Arais again, because I know they do fit me well...... .......but bl**dy hell, the Sharp ratings for Arai are sh*te and AGV tend to come out better...... Unfortunately no place near me stocks AGV for me to try on.......My old AGV still fits well and I'm thinking f*** it, I'll keep wearing that..... .....I think I might spend some money on my zorst cans instead..........
I got my Nolan from the motorcycle clothing centre in Wymondham, it's not too far from you, might be worth a trip to them. They also do a discount card.
I've finally picked up one of these bad boys (don't make 'em any more) taken a bit of a punt on the size, so could end up for sale..:frown:
Closing down sale by any chance...looked good value n ebay and would have had one if I hadn't just bought the Corse one
Yup - My head is on the cusp of top of med, bottom of large...If ya follows... Been hunting one for ages, Thought for the price worth a punt, also like lids with sunny shades...
I just bought one of these, a Bell M1 Tracker, seems OK so far, not quite as quiet as hoped, but OK, especially with earplugs in.
My research tells me they are better with the SHARP tests than Arai are and better than some AGV.... AL
