Help with scooter that went pop

Discussion in 'Other Bikes' started by Lucazade, Nov 7, 2013.

  1. It's got the ghey. Sell it and buy a motorbike.

  2. Oi, Matt, the clock's wrong.

  3. That is the plan Figaro. Just need to get the darn thing going!!!!!!!!!

So exhaust off, no difference. I kid you not no difference, still quiet, still sounds shitty, still bogs down about the same spot.

I been going up and down the street for few hours now and I noticed it is the throttle opening that makes the difference if you ask me.

I can go 30 mph easy as long as I do not try to get there by opening throttle more then 40-45% twist. However if I keep it at that 45% it will eventually reach 40mph easy or climb one of huge Wembley hills (slows down as under more load but goes) so load makes no difference.

I am now thinking it's version of ECU, TPS or some kind of sensor. The only reason it revs all the way to top when I am not on it is because engine is under no load so needs less petrol to get there.

That would also explain why I can do 30mph easy if fuel tank is open.

  4. So anyone here wants to buy it?

It has new tyres, new clutch, new belt, rollers, air-filter and spark-plug (but I guess that one is ruined by now due to overheating).

It has a box and L plate still attached. Few issues with electrics ;P

  5. It's got to be the throttle position sensor, surely? ECUs just don't fail, and it definitely sounds like a software rather than hardware problem, if you see what I mean. The ECU is getting the wrong command.

  6. Hey Lucas, are these 2 or 4 stroke ? if it 2 it could be the exhaust needs decoking, have you tried it with the baffle removed ?

  7. Sorry Lucas just read all the posts so its a 4 stroke, id still look at the exhaust tho

  8. He did...

  9. Done it.

So again anyone wants to buy a riddle. New tyres, clutch and service parts alone are about 250GBP so I can sell it on for 400 and add that to my monster commuter fund.

  10. silly thought is the sparkplug an ngk R rated plug
as have had issues with these breaking down causing similar problems and new ones failure to start even though giving a good spark when tested

  11. ah a quick google suggests fuel pumps are suspect for failure
but looking back on posts you checked that
so sorry bud but at a bit of a loss

  12. thats a bummer, thought we where on to a winner there, still quiet? did you take off at the manifold? tps possible dont know nowt about the bike or ease of access but engine managment is engine managment, does bike have a cat and lamda sensor? if so quickly disconect lamda sensor and and try again if it has a cat disconect at mannifold. had a punto in through the week with faulty pre cat lamda sensor no errors listed, could easily been mistaken for bad missfire higher up the rev range. it was obvious someone had carryd out a repair on sensor wires, disconected sensor and hay presto.

  13. Erm exhaust on this thing is in one piece all the way from manifold to where noise cones out. Well noise..... Johnboy fuel pump was one of the 1st things.

If it is not petrol related then maybe timing? At certain rpm and tps position it is to read from another timing mark or is expecting to read from two but gets one? But that would not explain why plug is white.

  14. Lucas has changed the pump, but if the fuel supply to the pump is restricted for some reason that might result in insufficient supply to injector.

  15. No idea how to check that.....

  16. Wot I said earlier"
I would also suspect possible inadequate fuel. Possible rusty tank clogging fuel tap and restricting fuel flow!

Can you disconnect fuel line anywhere to check fuel flow?"

Is it possible for you to disconnect the fuel pipe from the fuel tap to check there is a good amount of fuel flowing from the tap?

  17. Will try and do that tomorrow evening pending my public transport test ride.

What is good amount for a scooter ;P

  18. No specific amount Lucas, I'm sure it will be obvious if it's blocked in any way.

The internal diameter of the fuel pipe will only be about 4-5mm probably, more so don't expect it to flood out like when you slash after 10 cans of cider, more like an old geriatric like me dribbling his Horlicks through his well worn nob!
