Holidaying In The U.k.

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by noobie, May 12, 2019.

  1. West coast of Scotland, lovely little towns to visit /stay at and scenery thats out of this world, even when the weather is crap theres something about the place ,but when the sun comes out its magical, last summer we started at Arochar/Invarery/Oban/Plockton/Fort william/ ,visited the battlefield centre of Culloden then came down the east coast and visited Edinburgh and Holy island before heading home, best week i've ever spent on a bike...biggest surprise was Plockton ,palm trees on the street in the highlands ,also very atmospheric ,parts of the original Wicker man were filmed there....would highly recommend ,with mates on the bikes or with the missus/kids you will love it. :upyeah:

  3. Not so sure that I can afford to holiday in the UK.
Went to Rome, Milan, Croatia, and toured France/Spain last year and Naples this year. In Rome I bought a two day ticket to see the Coliseum and the Forum, it does need two days, €12 or about £10. I spent a day in Pompeii for €16, £13.
In the UK i bought a ticket to walk around some stones without even getting close enough to touch them, took me 45 minutes to walk slowly around Stonehenge, cost was £16. I thought that it belonged to the nation!
I'll save my money and stick to Europe. 4 week bike tour of Germany starting next month.

  4. I rated this post "Like" because there isn't a "Buh-bye Bob!"" rating.

  5. Usually holiday in the UK in the Summer, and piss off when it gets cold.

  6. Er, no. Just no!

  7. A mate of mine had a b n b in stoke Gabriel ... stayed a week down there and ride all over .. it was a great area... he took me out on the river dart in a borrowed boat.. we went to some pubs that are pretty much only reachable by boat..
There are roads to em but apparently it's a faff...
Unfortunately he didn't borrow a torch or extra fuel and it was a lil sketchy getting home after many pints, in the pitch black...

  8. Frogmore for us this year

  9. Funny, nobody ever mentions Slough. Especially nice on a grey and rainy day...

  10. As long as you can get gammon and chips, eh?

  11. I only really enjoy trail riding holidays in the UK. Did maybe 4 weekends a year before moving to France in 2017, Wales, lake District, isle of man.....etc

  12. Gammon is over-rated.

Give me a thick juicy steak from a methane-farting, Ocasio-Cortez enraging cow. Every time.

  13. You're obsessed with gammon, are you David Cameron?

  14. gammon steak with chips. superb, throw a fried egg on it. man o man, mm mm mmm.
but why do you insist on putting it on yer face. instead of in it?

  15. North Coast 500 for me this year. 1st time I haven't been abroad in a decade. 2 tours of Europe planned next year. :upyeah:

  16. Tenby for us. Every time weve been, its been brilliant (only downside i can see is the broadband/3g/4g) is fucking non existant (having 3 kids kinda makes is a bit of a necessity). If i could have a second mortgage thats where it would be....loads of derelict places that are cheap as, which is our plan come retirement (unless something else happens of course)..ive got one more renovation in me...

Even out of season its been great. Florida this year for us, but next year we'll be going back (as we'll be skint and probably paying off a credit card of some sort)!!
