  1. It was with TVAM in Wokingham. Very well organised and subsidised so very reasonable costs.

  2. It’s sounds very much like the Scholl days the ring run. I wonder if they tagged along on to it.
That generally seems to be the way it’s done. I have suspicions that is what this FE day will be tbh

  3. I think it is a great system, takes a lot of the stress away so fingers crossed FE use it.

  4. I think you’d have to over a circuit that long, IMO it would be carnage otherwise. I watch this thread for my bud as he’s well up for it.:upyeah:

  5. The best lap I had was following a Porsche who seems to know where they were going and blindly trusting they did….everything on my ST2 stacking everywhere and the others just left behind…brave or stupid or both: it’s the way I roll :p

Bit luckily stayed upright with no rolling that day :sob::joy:

  6. All the bike training days at the ring are effectively run to this sort of model. The Motorrad action days tend to glam their gig up by having sprauncy meals in hotels and a bit of theory stuff thrown in. I remember the tvam days as many of the guys used to stay at Sliders.
As it stands the motorrad action days have dwindled down to a single two day gig per year at the ring. Not through them not wanting to do more but Nurburgring won’t give them the dates. The Doc Scholl days have always from my memory been just the one two day gig. The tvam thing was a good thing that surprisingly managed to get dates from Nurburgring and lasted a few years before it’s demise. If I remember correctly the tvam really were at the mercy of the weather gods as it was normally quite late in the year.
Motorrad action days cater for brits as does Doc Scholl. But a big proportion of entrants on these events can be let’s say older more sensible guys that ride Gs beemers and you’d expect to have a pipe and slippers ready for them at the end of the day. Yes there are sports bike guys but they can be a minority.
Doc Scholl also have a big contingent of gentleman riders across the groups. But I would hazard a guess that it’s slightly more sports based with Them. Guys I know that instruct and have entered the Doc Scholl days recon on probably 25 or so laps through the day.
Both setups have accidents some silly stupid things some just mind bogglingly avoidable yet serious.
Would I partake in any of these courses? Yes if I was hungry for riding the ring with no cars or fluids on the event. But it can be a pricey way of getting tracktime. But it’s an exclusive thing to do and I’d guess other than those that end up on the deck come away buzzing and very happy.
While I’m banging on I’ll touch on Tourist sessions. This year so far has been sh1t for bikes. So much of the feeling from the hard core bike riders out here is that bikes really are not wanted in tourist sessions (TF). Being closed for bikes is so common now, but often it is justified as the amount of crashes and fluid spills is at a high. As my work is as an instructor here in cars you do see so many crazy things. Nowadays I have no real desire to ride TF anymore. Should bike only TF ever happen yes I’d be on it without hesitation. Training courses are not for me but they offer good access to car free tracktime.
Interested to see how the FE thing pans out.
I will add that bot Motorrad action & Doc Scholl are not seemingly lacking in getting places filled which makes a tie up with FE strange.

  7. My spy tells me that the Motorrad event in July is full with a waiting list. I will be there if the Germans decide to let us in again by then. Our group is usually one of the faster groups (but by no means the fastest). We have B2G times of down to 8m 26s. I was fortunate enough to ride some of the Motorrad events in the past when free lapping (open pit lane) was permitted. Now that was ace! It all went pear-shaped one year when a load of Italians turned up who clearly didn’t know the place and tried to ride it like a short track. It was carnage! Since then it has been back to groups with an instructor. If your instructor is good and you know the place well enough they will let you lead the group on laps, which is great fun. The only drawback with group riding is that you cannot really utilise the brakes or power of a 1100 V4, due to the other members in the group being on track with you. You have to brake smoothly approaching the corners otherwise you risk a rider into the back of you, and you have to accelerate smoothly otherwise you leave people behind. You are coming out of a corner whilst the person on the back of the group is still slowing down for it.

  8. Google reminded me of my first ring trip the other month, think it was 12 years ago or something and I've been 9 or 10 years on the bounce.

Purely social thing nowadays but love the people, love the hotel we stay in at Barweiler, can't wait to go again frankly.

Always like the 2nd or 3rd lap, first is always ropey, but if you ride confident (not overly) then you can get the space in the places you need, just let the GT2/3's go if they're proper fast and enjoy it.

    Beers good too :party::beer:

  11. You must know Dave Simmons?

  12. The links below may be of interest, regarding motorcycle lap times at the Nürburgring Nordschleife BTG:

    https://blog.brocksperformance.com/...s-now-the-fastest-man-to-lap-the-nurburgring/

    https://nzautocar.worldsecuresystem...ati-s-panigale-v4-clocks-7-30-nurburgring-lap

My circuit (not shown of course) was nearly 50% slower than Andy Carlile's fastest lap!

I believe there are a number of other threads on this forum concerning laps of the Nürburgring that might be of interest, they should show-up following a search.

Hope the links connect and they're of interest.

    Tom.
