Rather than drill holes in the new frame, can you not adapt/drill the two bolts that hold the headlight to its brackets, to accept or mount the indicators?
Ive not got any pics but, the oem literally has a piece of metal tube welded to the headlight bracket that goes across....that will accept the aftermarket indicator but theyre loose (the m8 indicator screw thread goes in but has about 0.5mm ish of clearance so its loose in there)....the oem bracket also has a tube but that looks to be about 12mm ish (im in the office so nothing to measure with) so its a case of how to mate the two together...which ive no idea.!
Yeah - my hyper motor took about 2 months (pulled out of the frame, total rebuild and then back in) this wasnt that much more....3 years??
Dropped off V5 at the post office to convert the status of the bike to "Historic" now - so "should" now be Tax and MOT free...which was nice....!
One of the forum elders on the sohc site had a good point... "now it rolls, it can be rolled out of your garage.." so just insured it 50quid. They reckoned about 6k for the value possibly more as its only done 6800 miles and i have all the oem stuff which could go back on to restore it to bone stock. Has to go on a ground anchor though..!
Got to put my head down wiring the motogadget as well for my cb400f project (I got the old version) I'll take your post as reference. Can you suggest where did you find a lithium-compatible rectifier?
Yeah - sure - got it here... https://www.antigravitybatteries-uk.co.uk/lithium-friendly-voltage-regulator-rectifiers-bike.html ive havent got the invoice to hand but i can get the exact modl number if you need it....but then yours might be different...
More stuff working.... Oil and neutral along with the side light inside the headlight which now completes the electrical work (bar taping up the loom itself) - gotta reroute the brake line as its going throug the middle of the loom behind the headlight, side panels back on, numberplate fitted. Got the v5 back this morning confirming the historic status, checked in on the tax status and its on til next aug. Just the carbs to balance now and its ready to go.
Came back in the house after a few hours out there....put a film on....watched for 40 mins or so and thought...fuck it...I could get a bit more done....so, taped up the loom...bought a pattern headlamp frame I could chop up so did that...moved the indicators ( which I'll probably change ) and tidied up behind the light...literally just the carbs to do now...
Great work. I rebuilt one of these in 1982 so I could use it to go to work. My GS1000S was not getting the oil warm enough on that very short journey. My friend in Dublin had the very first one to come into the country. Great little bikes
Cheers - im at the final stage of balancing and setting up the carbs which seems to be eluding me....fitted the electronic ignition (which is working) just cant get it to tickover...starts and goes straight to 3k...might have to pull them out again to check them...
After looking for the seat - its been almost 4 years now since its been complete and help from @Keith_P today....i gingerly took it round the block....got back and totally forgot i didnt tighten the sump plug up! and the forks/yokes settled in so the headstock needed tightening.
Yep - little bit emotional if im honest....ive only got a couple of things of dads but this one is clearly the best.! looking back, once it was down to its basic parts it looked like it had been dragged out of a swamp.
Well, after the first kinda shakedown (rode it to the office) initially ive got a couple of issues... 1. Speedo not working but ive found ive got a couple of bits missing from the front wheel but located the missing part... 2. Think the charging system is not working so out with the meter tonight... 3. Getting a list of bit and bobs together for recoating/rechroming...
