There must be something wrong with both of mine. Daylight... Very visable. Night... The same intesity as daylight. Far better than my 748.
I feel so good about mine today I am treating it to a pair of BT016 tyres, new Renthal alloy sprockets and chain. I bought it because I think air cooled bikes are cool and I don't want more than 100bhp. I am about the only one here probably that prefers the look of the IE to the carby, I have only owned it for 9 months. Not changing yet. I dropped an 1100 Evo motor into it out of one of those pesky Monsters. I put it in more to get the weight down than for power really. Thinking of getting a plastic tank for it next. I prefer faired bikes but do acknowledge that the lower half of the fairing is a bit shit looking. So if I could change that to something that looks in keeping with the bikini I would.
I quite fancy a later alloy swingarm, purely for looks. The steel one looks a bit low rent. Other than that nothing really. It's got a Ducati single seat cowl and I'm trying a double bubble MRA screen (works a treat for me). Also has a Renthal rear sprocket with +3 and Hel braided lines, DP straight through pipes. I think the looks can be a bit marmite but I love it and the 750 is more than enough for me. So many people comment on it. It looks proper and sounds superb.
I have the last chunky alloy swingarm on mine. Someone in America is asking nearly half what I paid for my bike for it on eBay
Thought I'd add mine to this, Always liked the look of them, and fancied a faired bike after my Monster S4R Love riding it, it's comfy and has got just the right amount of power for me. I've owned it for about 4 years now, took a year of biking to completely rebuild it last year. I've owned 4 other Ducati's, this is the best one. I wouldn't change it, ever. Definitely a keeper this one. So far it's had a complete engine rebuild. ST2 barrels to 944 with high compression pistons, 600SS flywheel, Keihin FCR41 flatslides, Exactfit high output coils, K & N filter, cut away airbox, opened out exhaust collector and Termignoni's. It does need setting up properly on the dyno, next month I hope. Thinking about upgrading the suspension next, as funds allow!
From what I have seen it is cut out and a simple cross piece put in and two flat panels welded on. I have heard that they are not as restrictive as people think. I believe the 851 and 888 have the same setup and their power is obviously higher. Just a thought
It was done exactly as Desmoquattro states above. I've no idea if it's helped or not to be honest, but with all the other mods its got, every little helps i suppose! Looking at getting an Ohlins shock from a 900 IE model and possibly the front forks as it should be a straight swap. Would really like the later alloy swingarm from IE as well. Oh, and the 5 spoke Marchesini wheels.......
I know what you mean - I had toyed with the idea of opening up the crossover (still am I suppose), but it was Brad Black's comments about the same system being used on the 851/888 (which were never noted for being down on power) which persuaded me to leave things alone (for the time being anyway!). Be interested to know if you feel the mod helps.
I couldn't find/afford Marchesinis, so ended up fitting Fireblade wheels - cost me £100 the pair, and fitted with some simple engineering. Saved 3.5kg over the standard ones. Just a thought......
Also if people want the forks, ohlins shock, chunky swingarm and 5 spoke wheels off the late IE you are better off buying a bike and breaking it. My bike was £1800 last November
I'll know better once the bike has been on the dyno and set had the flatslides set up properly. I don't really think opening that little bit up, has helped as much as a full spaghetti system (also on my list) would really. Most people say get the flatslides fitted and you'll be happy. I started with the 944 barrel conversion, which was a big improvement and went from there.
That looked like the best way to go to get the bits I needed. You could even swap the parts over and re-sell the IE if you wanted.
