  13. The problem are the pubco's who reward hardworking Tennant's by increasing their rent when the takings go up.I spoke to a Fullers area manager about 3 years ago who blamed the supermarkets for selling beer too cheaply.I replied by asking who sells supermarkets Fullers London pride to them then?.It went very quiet after that. The pub was a great British institution where people of all walks of life and occupations could mix and promote pride in their areas. Now pubs are a resource that increasingly are been seen as a way of obtaining properties to redevelope into flats and other dwellings for profit.Anyway back on thread, where I lived in Surrey,Stella was about £4.20 a pint, here in Dorset it £3.30 in my location.Joy.

  18. It's surely a combination of factors. I think life is becoming increasingly "virtual". People spend it in front of screens (like I am...) under the impression they are communicating, instead of getting out and actually seeing people. Then there is the whole in-home entertainment thing. People buy their monster plasma TV and their surround sound home cinema and sit on their sofa eating chocolate and crisps instead of getting out and seeing people. Supermarket alcohol suddenly looks good value compared to a night down the pub. Then of course, you can't drive there and who wants to be the alcohol-free driver?

It's all very sad, but you have to blame the propensity for the British to want to spend their lives inside. In other countries there is still a vibrant café culture.

  19. There's no cafe culture in Blighty cos every time you step outside the house you run the risk of breaking a law. Nanny state, innit.

  20. you have a warped mind.
