  2. The one way valve shown is similar to the one I've just done... 50p coin for scale... Put item plus soda in container, pour on boiling water and leave until cool/cold.. No ratios, I just use "ish"... :)

  4. Amazing, I thought anodisation was much more in deep and permanent than that, didn't realise you could strip it like paint.

  5. 'Exterior' anodising is approx 25um thick (decorative 'indoor' is approx 5um). Not a lot!

  6. Anodising dimensionally changes a part as it adds aprox 50% to a surface, and penetrates 50% into a surface. As you point out, the thickness of anodising is very small and in most cases a fraction of any specified tolerance, however for precision holes that fit other parts it can become an issue.

I have no idea what stripping with caustic soda does dimensionally to a part.

  7. This was also my thoughts. I'd like to know more - maybe I'll have a little play

Normal anodising is preceded by an acid dip to remove (as closely as possible) the same volume of material added by the anodising. Not an exact science because of geometry effects, etc so yes, anodising is not for high-tolerance-fit parts.

  8. Nice one, an acid dip will do the same but be sure to rinse in pure water after and immediately clear anodise to preserve the bright cut finish forever. Otherwise, polish regularly!

  9. Agree with you on coloured adonising, it's very personal, but usually dreadful to me. Like other responses, I didn't realise it was so easy to remove.
I've not bought bikes in the past because of adonised parts, due to the cost of replacing them, wish I'd known this way of removing it.
    Looks 100% better:upyeah:

  10. Oven Pride! Crikey, incredible stuff, to think of all the years and elbow grease that I've expended using wet and dry! Brilliant job that you've done there!

  11. I replaced my Rizoma with them and much prefer them - a slightly longer footpeg and a far more precise feel with less play on the lever. I reckon it’s shaved a tenth or so off my lap time in novice group. :punch:
