How To Lighten A Rear Disc

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by comesunt, Mar 9, 2015.

  1. Follow me on instagram

Why on earth would I want to do that...??

  2. The Lipo battery is a VERY good cost effective measure and one on my must do list when the current brick packs up. Which doesn't seem too far off now.

    battery 5.5
    fans 2
    horn & petrol cap 1
    full race system 9
exhaust under tray / heat shield 2
    some titanium nuts 0.5

loads of lights and stuff ?? 15????

Might be more but too late right now...

  5. a lifepo is only 60-70 quid. Are you a jock?

  6. It's a bit skewed by the fact I can only get about 12 litres of fuel in my modified tank. But I reckon if I junked the starter and fitted a tiny race battery I could get to 1bhp/kg. Not got to shaving discs or the like yet so it's defiantly on the cards.

  7. get a smaller race rear caliper. Mines ap racing one. Plus skimmed and reduced od disc, ive not got around to drilling more holes yet.

  8. 12 litres of fuel! There is another 9 kgs. Ride naked, leathers are heavy.

  9. We're all heading around Bob T's place to pick up those bolts ;)

  10. I've ridden in just my boots and crash hat. Didn't like it.

  11. @1037sps Feck..........how did you get it that light? Mines on 168kg with no fuel. I could save about 1kg changing the airbox bottom to carbon from alloy, another 500g from changing out the throttle body bracket. I still run a standard fuel tank so another 1.5kg there maybe. It's full of titanium and alloy bolts, full ms prod carbon bodywork etc etc. mag this mag that and still its a lard arse compared to yours.

  12. Most the internals are ex-wsb, other than that if it doesn't need it it's not there, and I've made everything else I can in carbon. Every bracket, minimal front sub frame, foot rest hangers, battery box, coolant pipes and if I had more time I'm desperate to try a self supporting seat unit.
It should be at Louigi Moto soon to have Chris create a map for my short velocity stacks if anyone wants a looksy.

  13. i saw your bike last time i was down there shaking it self to bits on the dyno lol :Woot: it did look very trick though

  14. Yh that's why it's gotta go back. Had so many problems Chris only mapped it with the long velocity stacks for short tracks then got so pissed off he gave it me back.
The short stacks should've been put in next and mapped on a spare ecu which should increase peak power past the current 151bhp, but this is already his record for a desmoquatro.
It's never gonna be pretty but has had a fair bit of tidying up since then too.

  15. I've found someone who will make me a lightened rear disc for about £35 or so... I'll post a link later...
Like the idea of a smaller caliper but need to consider the rear wheel sensor, so might leave that alone for a while until I come up with a cunning plan...

  16. Hmmm. Rear wheel sensor? Excuse my ignorance of the 848 but what's it for?
