Hypermotard 698

Discussion in 'Hypermotard' started by duke63, Feb 12, 2024.

  1. there was a bike at Bury Hill last weekend, We didn't get to talk to the rider but I'm guessing it was from Snells in Alton.

  2. They’re lovely looking bike, possibly a demo though? Very high at the rear when getting on and off I was catching my foot on the silencer shields.

  3. i'm slowly getting sucked in - it's the highest seat of the three contenders apparently (KTM and forgotten the other one?) at 904 mm (889 with lowered seat option).

  4. I’m only aware of the KTM/Husqvarna/GasGas in this market segment.

I can just about flat foot the Hyper and my Gasser.

The only thing that bugged me was the display. It is better than the KTM offerings but how the information is displayed on screen irritated me a little.

The hyper is the finished article, whereas my GG needs a sticker kit and a lot of farkles to get it where I’d like it. Particularly with either the fuelling or the gearing whatever is stopping it pulling hard round town.

Take a day when it’s bright and take one for a spin?

  8. Does the motor have DVT?

  9. No idea and I can’t find anything that says it has, I’m going to say no as I’m fairly sure the marketing department would use it in their blurb.

  10. interesting. i'm watching a transition from no chance to every chance. :p
the bike looks good, bar the red paint on the black wheels. it may well cover all the bases for somebody like myself who is going through a lil lull in their interest in riding. and it is more my riding style. hmm.

  11. Yes the Red on Black looks straight out of Chavsville for me too but easily remedied with a lick of paint.

Or you could go the whole hog and buy a set of spoked wheels, circa 1400.
The GasGas gets slated for having ‘wheelbarrow’ wheels but at least they’re easily cleaned.

  12. i can imagine just changing the tyres, let alone the wheels (something i was thinking should i ever take the plunge) would play havoc with TC and wheely control ect software.
we'll see. not this year though.

  13. A very good point, it’s popular mod on the GasGas and has been done on a few.

Don’t the rider aids use the ABS sensor which reads the inner ring of the brake disc though. AFAIK the wheels are the same size and tyre sizes remain the same.
A few of the less flush GG riders have used non factory fit tyres and haven’t mentioned issues. Those ContiAttak SM only last just over 1K of enthusiastic riding. I put Pirelli Diablo’s on mine with no issue with the rider aids.

  14. yip, no doubt the speed sensors will be standard fair. and will have someway of adjusting the sensitivity of the TC. i need to see and ride one in the flesh i guess.

  15. You really do, you never know it may tempted you to pry open your not often opened walllet?

Plus you could A2 it so your lad could use it for wheelies skids and endos. :)

  16. i don't think the lad reads this forum. but if he does, i wont be long in finding out. thanks for putting ideas in his head. :D
i dont think DG is doing any events this year at the green welly, or otherwise i would give it a go. which is no bad thing really. i've got too much going on this year and it may well lead to you know what.

  17. Yeah, that's why I asked. Spent a little while mooching around the web but couldn't find any reference to DVT. As you say I suspect it hasn't got it otherwise the market dept would surely have made a big point of it.

Suspect it would have really pushed out the price point... shame really because it's the sort of motor that would benefit from such tech.

  18. Perhaps Ducati could have used the DVT variant in the top line version.

I’m sure there are potential owners who would still buy them purely for the rarity/exclusivity of it. A 698 Hypermotard SP, coming our way in 2025…….

  19. It yours isn’t you scamp……

  20. Wouldn’t DVT just sap some of the power? It must use some energy to make it work.
Pretty sure there will be a few more variants and tunes for this engine.
