General consensus is suggesting that it's not Road 5s. Have checked my tyre pressures and they seem fine. Front wheel balancing is next! Thanks for all the suggestions peeps - much appreciated
Same here on my 1260. Though this model does have a longer swing arm and, I believe, revised fork geometry to make it more stable. Ducati did this to precisely eliminate this weave issue that was prevelent with the 1200 DVT.
My twinspark 1200 had a weave at speed. Not violent, just like a swaying from side to side. All tyres and even after upgrading front fork internals. GS gets a weave at 130 with luggage one up.
swapped the Pirelli ST2's off and popped Road 5's on and have had no issue so far; also ran Road 5's rather than Pirelli Angel's on a triumph Tiger Sport - better on that bike also..
I think I finally fixed mine... Tyre pressures = 42psi rear / 36psi front / Michelin Road 5 Front preload = 10 turns out Touring mode = rear preload 20 / front & rear harder Doesn't weave. Full gas to 130mph and solid as a rock... ran out of "closed roads" at that point. Usually it'd have been wagging before then.
@Keti Tighten up your rear suspension & see if it does it again? Must of been going over three-figures to get a wooble on, what numbers you talkin'
A month ago I replaced a set of Road 5s with a set of Road 5 GTs, now I get a weave at high speed (at about a 20 MPH lower speed than I could go on the previous set of tyres with no sign of a weave). I'm running the same tyre pressures; 36 PSI front and rear - solo and no luggage. I've not yet checked that the tyres are running true on the rims or maybe the wheels aren't in alignment.
Tbf most tracks you’re not much above 100 that often or long enough maybe for the death weave (which I never had btw, just a slight tow in on camber)
Mine did it a couple of times with scorpions. Not done it since switching to R5 . Probably me though altering technique. Any bumps or crossing lines on road, a little off power.
I've since checked my wheel alignment and re-checked tyre pressure - all fine and my bike still feels flighty at the front end so I've not made quite such spirited progress in a while. I suspect if I did, the front end would get a wobble on like last time. :/
I was running my rear preload and rear tyre pressure a bit low and fixing those seems to have sorted it. @Keti may have a different combination of gender, mass and aerodynamics to me... so my settings might be bugger all use to her but they are pretty comfy for me and stable at: Mode = Touring / Sport (don’t use Urban - feels broken - or Enduro - short legses) Front preload = 10 turns out (anticlockwise) from maximum (clockwise) Rear preload = 20 on dash Front damping = harder Rear damping = harder Tyre pressure front = 2.5 bar Tyre pressure rear = 2.5 bar Tyres = Michelin Road 5 Other factors; screen is an MRA Vario touring with a deflector, in the low position, fitted with screen spacers from @Jamie Clare Your mileage will almost certainly vary, but if it’s any use at all... that’s what works for me.
Strangely enough I have increased the rear setting to 18 and lowered Tyre pressures to 36 front 38 rear and it has sharpened up the ride as the tyres are absorbing more of the road undulations and not knocking me out of my seat on jolty bumps anymore. And at Brands the other day the high speed handling was much improved especially keeled right over at high speed.
I checked the tyres were seated true on the rims - they were. I then loosened off the front wheel spindle and pinch bolts and then did them using the procedure described in @Simon Audi 's post on front wheel assembly. The weave has gone
Not quite the same thing but my RP5's are now half worn and have started to become misshapen. The bike now is very nervous and follows overbanding and tarmac changes to the point its not pleasant at all. On a smooth A road there are no issues, but a not so good B road and its not pleasant at all. I'll be trying Metzeler Roadtec's next after reading reviews. The RP5's have been outstanding upto now but this latest issue has put a dampener on things … and I never actually thought much to the wet weather feel if i'm honest from the start.
