I Am A Nice Person But..

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Gingerdog, Jun 30, 2015.

  1. What did you explain to the neighbour when she complained?

I start my job at 10pm and get home by 6.30am. Yes there is more 24hr living, having worked shift work for 30 years, permanent 4/4 12hr nights since 1997 and the current shift for 6yrs.

I get woken up during the day by everyday noises. I have to accept that this is "normal" noise for 12pm. 5am is not an acceptable or reasonable time for loud noises (I think there is a time curfew on using your horn between these times)

There may be other residents who are retired, work other shift times or just poor sleepers. I adopt consideration for others, especially my neighbours, as I would like some in return.

I am sure you would get fed up of a loud noise every night when you are halfway through your sleep.

However, you have done the best you can do to limit the nuisance and I am sure you have told her that long before posting on here.

How do you manage riding a Diavel when it's icy and snowing? That must take some skill.

Although I am noticing a big increase in an attitude of "I'll do what I like, when I like, Fuck everyone else"

  3. Highway code rule 112

You MUST NOT use your horn
    • while stationary on the road
    • when driving in a built-up area between the hours of 11.30 pm and 7.00 am

  4. Unless your missus will just not finish faffing around indoors and get in the car [emoji6]

  5. Ignore her completely. She has no right to give you a hard time for doing what you are doing, and if you acknowledge her complaint you'll never hear the end of it.Some people think that they have power to tell you how to live your life..they don't.
And the Local Authority cannot stop you from riding your road legal motorcycle at any time of the day or night.
Lifted from the Woking council website as an example:

If the complainant feels very strongly about it she can report you to the old bill, but if your pipes are legal they can only ask you to keep the noise down as much as possible.

  6. I do sympathise with people who have noisy neighbours, and would be irritated by noises all night, we lived next door to the head of the town council for the last ten years, and before that in the middle of a housing estate with neighbours all around, not one issue in thirty years of house ownership, never, not one.
The landlord has just moved out of this house which he has lived in for the past 11 years the neighbours all moved in at the same time as him, so are all big friends, he's a good guy and has no issues.
I don't want to come here upsetting the equilibrium, I try to fit in anywhere whatever the situation.
He wouldn't say who it definitely was, the nearest neighbour seems fine we were chatting last night.
In the rare times we have snow which we haven't had for two years here, I would have to get the other half out of bed, but luckily I haven't had to approach that situation yet.
The landlord knows I use a bike and understands theres not much else I can do.
Ill see how far I can roll it before I start it next time.
The point I was trying to make, not very subtly in the original post, was that we only been her two or three days it was as if ground rules for the scummy rental people ( this house is 800 a month so I'm definitely not that)

I don't like upsetting people it makes me sad.

  7. And part of the reason there's an increase in the "fuck you",attitude,is parents who've bought their horrid little offspring up to think they should be the centre of everyone else's universe,as well as the idiots that have spoiled them rotten.
Round here,we are plagued by very late model hatchbacks,(paid for by mum and dad, natch),with noisy Halfords silencers badly nailed on,a "sound" system bigger than the Beatles used to have, hoying their Mcshite out of the window while doing doughnuts in a quiet residential street.
We had four of them out there last night...when a female neighbour politely asked them to put their crap in the bin,she got the usual,"how dare someone ask us to behave in a civilised manner",flick of the fingers.
It won't be a problem for long:if they turn up again someone will ring the filth and say there's a drug deal going down:hopefully the nice man in uniform will turn up,(as they have done before),and give the little horrors the fright of their lives and/or find half a gramme of Peruvian marching powder in their possession...
This is not an intolerant neighbourhood:I've never heard a word about my Termi-fitted ST2 nor the Akropovic on my KTM,(in fact the neighbours can often be found on my drive admiring my bikes),nor my sadly missed V8 Econoline with straight-through pipes.
Anti-social behaviour is not about making a bit of noise,it's about taking the piss with no regard to anyone else....

  8. Why is your landlord not getting you all together and sorting the problem before it becomes a big one?
Surely if they are all good friends he would have explained that you have a bike and told the neighbour that if there are any problems they could be nipped in the bud

He is a landlord and has a duty of care I hate these people who say
I can't tell you who it is but so and so ..... That's not solving a problem it's creating one in my opinion

  9. I had someone come up to me once and say, "I can't tell you who said this but there's been a complaint about -". I stopped them and said, "Sorry, no. If you can't tell me who it is then you can't tell me what it is either." and then started to walk away.
Unfortunately they then proceeded to tell me all about it anyway ... shame, otherwise it would have been a really cool story :)

  11. Maybe they felt intimidated, unsure about the future and decided to try and nip it in the bud by complaining to your landlord ?

  12. Contact your local authority and have a word with them
There is the noise Act 1996 and night hours are 11-7 and there are ways your neighbour can complain about the noise at 5-5.30
Before it gets to a complaint which I can see looming I would be in contact with the council and see if your being a nuisance and get them to check the noise level
The person who complains first is usually the one is treated the best
Get in first and show your a good neighbour :)

  13. Can't do it Viv,it's not within the Councils remit;
    (4) If an officer of the authority is satisfied, in consequence of an investigation under subsection (1), that— (a) noise is being emitted from the offending dwelling during night hours, and (b) the noise, if it were measured from within the complainant's dwelling, would or might exceed the permitted level,
The OP says the complainant is whinging about the noise as he passes her house : and if you see my earlier post it clearly states the council have no regulatory control over vehicle noise in the street.
As long he's not revving it's guts out on the driveway,I doubt anyone will listen to her...assuming that it is a her,and a genuine complaint, rather than the landlord making up some old tosh because he doesn't want to offend his golfing buddies...or maybe he's anti-bike,as so many people are...

  14. Wish people would live and let live and have a bit more tolerance, our next door neighbour is a bin-man for the council,he's got a ZRX1100 and he goes to work at 3.45am every morning, leaving it tick over whilst he puts his kit on,nobody has ever complained in this street about him.
