I Felt Like An Idiot!

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Tony Richardson, Aug 29, 2020.

  1. I’ve almost made this mistake several times, coming from a multistrada with its amazing manoeuvrability to a 900ss and its thumb breaking lock to lock.
    Glad your ok.

  2. I almost dropped my monster in a car park touching the front brake on lock (learned from that o_O) then I hit the starter when in gear and on the sidestand - had to chase it down the road :bucktooth: but managed to save the LH side touching tarmac - just (learned another lesson there :D)

  3. Bumpstarting a gsxr down the road in front of neighbours all out gardening....quiet Sunday... Bike caught.... Then stalled... ended up with me underneath and neighbours lifting bike off me.... All taking the piss quite rightfully....

  4. Or when I dropped a R90s on slippery corner on Lyneham married quarters. . It was on fast idle still... So it's whizzing around on one cylinder.... Propelled by rear rear wheel.... Me chasing it around in circle trying to get hold of the clutch..... I was fit in those days.... Eventually caught it....

  5. Surely this move was learnt & mastered in the playground / off road with traffic cones like many others before you set out on the road.?

  6. Well obviously but not me I was better out riding I passed my test by doing a massive U turn not round a tiny cone

  7. Sorry to hear of your incident this is one thing that does concern me when I have to turn the multistrada around being a short arse if I have to turn the bike around I will get off the thing and push it as it is only a matter of time before I get too cocky glad all ended well and it's nice to hear that some car driver are willing to stop and help out

  8. I agree, being vertically challenged myself, and getting on in years means that I have to be very careful about any bikers I buy, the Monster is just on the limit of weight I can manage, and anything over 770mm seat height is a no no as well, hence my Suzuki Tempter, 160kg and my Yamaha MT03, 158kg, are my limit these day's

  9. Not in a limited lock, top heavy SS it isn’t!

  10. Exactly the same happened to me on a ZZR1100 - but I couldn't hold her so had to let her drop - I was so furious that I managed to pick the beast up again, without the temper I doubt that I could have done it.

  11. I am vertically challenged

Had a brand new CBR600F - first ride - pulled it out of my garage (was delivered in garage by dealer) down drive and I stopped just before bottom

Drive was about 20 degree angle - front on the flat at bottom - back wheel still on the slope - legs dangling in mid air.... managed to slowly lean it over to right - but angle was too much and had to slowly lower it to ground... what a heap...

Never did that again... managed to cover scratches with stickers and bought crash bungs... always had crash bungs waiting now when bike arrives to avoid a repeat.... plus moved house....

  12. Surely that SS model must be better proposition than say a awkward 916,?

  13. Plenty of idiots on this forum to choose from

any I’m sure you’ll find one to your liking ! :p

  15. One of my biggest nightmares is dropping my Multistrada somewhere off the beaten track and not being able to pick it up. Lucky for you the driver gave you a hand!

  16. Many moons ago, at a petrol station in Newdigate I had just filled up my 916... while paying I noticed it was being admired by two fine fillies in a MX5. On mounting my bike with a bit of a swagger I went to put my helmet on while sat astride the bike. My foot slipped on some diesel and I had to make an instant decision... save the bike or finish pulling my helmet on?! Save the bike won... I was rescued by the two ladies who dashed over and helped hoist the bike upright... the whole event was made worse by the fact my helmet was perched, on top of my head tight across my brow...! The sight brought a whole new definition to the word 'dickhead'!! I now try to avoid Newdigate and swaggering... :joy:
