    Got it [emoji6]

That photo doesn't show all of what I've found either. Every stapled bundle is an engine bearing failure. I also have a dealer with 2 bikes in, another dealer stating they get these in constantly.

  2. How will the independant engineer give a verdict on how its failed if the engines still in the bike , the engine will have to come out and stripped right down to bare bones for any therorys on what/why its gone wrong .
Only asking this as we deal with alot of aftermarket warrantys and have independant engineers coming to our work numerous times a year looking at mechcanically failed issues

  3. I asked the same question. Apparently the independent engineer company are fully aware of that, yet the finance company want the bike given the once over and he has to then give an opinion as to wether the age/condition/mileage could have caused the bearing to fail.

The way I see it, this guy coming round could work well for me if he see's a nice shiny bike that's never missed a service, with only 21k miles that's eaten a bearing.

  4. Fingers crossed for you mate. If the engineer has an ounce of common sense and is playing a straight bat then he really ought to come down on your side - especially with the evidence of all those other cases.

  5. What have Trading Standards said about this? Have you consulted them?

  6. Haven't gone that route yet. Basically seeing what the engineer says.

As Dave has said, if the engineer has any common sense and is not out to tuck me up then I should be fine.

  7. I'd spend a good few hours on a full valet so the general condition makes the best impression, looks like that's all he's going to use to base his report on.

  8. It's pretty clean anyway but I'll have another crack and even hang one of those smelly trees behind the screen.

  9. Unlikley common sense will come into it. Not all failures are due to a manufacturing failure (therefore doesnt make it not fit for purpose), sometimes they 'just happen' even in the most maintained bikes. Fingers crossed having lots of evidence of others though does

  10. So how did you get on?

  11. Well, he's taken notes of all my service history and got copies. He said there was nothing wrong with my receipt for my own oil and filter change. He even commented on the oil being the one he likes to use (and within spec).

He said the 'wear and tear' on an engine was basically crap. I offered him copies of what I'd found online and he said he will actually be going off and doing his own research on examples to include in his report but to keep mine to add to it if needed.

  12. I should hear from the finance company on their decision/progress in 6 days.

  14. He said he would expect brake pads as wear and tear at 21,000 miles... Not an engine.

  18. I understand your disappointment and frustration but that's not actually true.
The cylinder heads were replaced for a known defect (porous castings), that's nowhere near a second engine!

  19. No, my heads got replaced too but it was an engine rebuild due to a cam snapping at the shaft and winging its way round the engine scoring everything in sight.

  20. Apologies, I thought from reading the thread it was just the known porous casting problem before. You really have been unlucky!
Let's just hope it gets sorted and you can move on.
