  17. Mars had Snickers and M&Ms as the official Olympic snack in 1984 (Barcelona).
That led amongst others at Mars, the owner (Forrest Mars) to foresee the globalisation trend coming - that allied to the marketing of Snickers to young men would likely feature sports. Mars sponsored the FIFA world cup in 1990 and chose Snickers as the brand. So Marathon (UK only brand) had to go and Snickers arrived in UK.

So blame football (soccer haha !!)

PS Opal Fruits got retired and Starburst arrived, Treats went and M&Ms hit these fair shores.
PPS The Spangles production line now makes Tunes

  18. not me, boots
    we had Alpine. :innocent:
but spoolying was fashionable. (nicking fruit from gardens)
the grand national running through gardens and jumping the hedges.
plying chickomellie. a long length of thread with a pin on the end and a button 5" from the end, you would pin the thread to the window and hide in the undergrowth and gently and repeatedly pull the other end of the thread causing the button to knock on the window sill. drove the inhabitants nuts.*falling down laughing* ahh the good ol daaays.
