Looks like I have one then. Probably explains my first reaction when I rode it. I'd traded in a S1000RR - first time out, pulled out of the drive, straightened up, opened the throttle like I would have on the BMW, WTF??? Gotten used to it now (although I thought I was just getting used to the bike...). @noobie - Richard R is probably better placed to tell you how it affects riding in traffic, I've never ridden a standard one. Don't suppose it improves things though!
You need to photoshop that white bike into a red one before @Ducbird sees it. Or stick a bin in front of it for lovely DB brownie points.
When you are aware of it, you can ride at a slow speed.... Not much worse that standard. It doesn't take long to be able to twist the throttle in tiny degrees... If you are not aware of it you spin the back wheel if cold!
I think I’m going to have to build up to one of those Richard.... I’m already asking for trouble with this thing I don’t want to over do it
Yes, things have changed but only around here. Its a massively tourist based area and every other building is a hotel or bed and breakfast or an air bnb. They don’t like it to be noisy but mainly its the pollution. The police here are all into bikes and they can spot a non homologated no cats pipe a mile away. And I have to say when there are three or more bikes running no cats it does smell really bad, even if they are mapped properly. I can’t stand following older non homlogated exhaust bikes like an 2006 MV F4 1000 for example, I cant breath. We are a UNESCO world heritage area now and they have really tried to clean up the sea and beaches to make it pristine, clamping down on us is part of that. They’re just doing their job and it is massively antisocial, the noise and the smell. Naples is still more or less lawless, if you go there you will see 90% of scooter riders up to 500cc not wearing helmets for example. We are a bubble on the Amalfi Coast that doesn’t really represent the rest of the South. My friend works with metals and is a craftsman generally so we started a new company building specials and he is also becoming a Vyrus dealer. We have a basic website up, look at castiellomoto.it He has built a Triumph Bobber special that is stunning and a Buell Special. Hopefully we will be at EICMA this year with a couple more specials. This venture is not about making money its all about the love of bikes and being able to do this kind of thing before they ban all this in ten to fifteen years time and have us all on electric self driving ‘motorcycles’.... What is Tommaso’s second name and where does he live? We may well know him, its a close knit community of bikers here even though we are hundreds and hundreds.
I think it would be ok because they wouldn’t have any jurisdiction over your bike or your license. Also the D16 is revered in Italy and the police would probably be just as happy to see it and hear it as the rest of us! We have other jobs away from bikes (he makes bespoke fireplaces) and we will never do servicing etc. It’s purely for fun, any pressure and the fun would go out of it. If someone wants to commission a bike from him that’s great, but if they don’t then that’s great too. Also no servicing because we only like a certain type of bike and we wouldn’t want anything to do with BMW GS’s, V Stroms etc... This is definitely not a get rich quick scheme or a great business model, its more a symptom of how motorcycles have completely taken over our lives and we just want to get deeper into it, for fun not for money.
Well I said I’d update and it’s been a bit of a chaotic Italian nightmare, i still haven’t got the bike yet. The tyre supplier had a mix up and they sent one front Supercorsa SC2 and one Supercorsa rear SLICK! Instead of two Supercorsa V2... which were out of stock, so I had to wait more. The tyres arrived and then my dealer realised they had lost one of the db killers. So they are on order, should arrive tomorrow. So now I have two useless tyres, two good tyres and three db killers. The good news is that in our quest to have two wheeled fun, me and Castiello have decided to put the Buell special and the Bobber special in the van and take them to the Monaco GP weekend. We will ride around Monaco and see if anyone wants to order one, or commission something else, why not? If nothing else we’ll get some fun pictures and videos for our site, Instagram etc. So if anyone here will be there send me a message and lets meet up. And if anyone needs one db killer let me know.
