Surely not. The new boxer has the wet clutch at the back end of the gearbox, instead of the old dry clutch between the engine and the gearbox.
Sorry Pete, don't understand your post unless you're trying to say I should have said ..wet slipper clutch located at the front of the engine....? It's not 'at the backend of the gearbox'. Take off the front engine cover (i.e. behind the front wheel) and there it is.
My apologies, I see that you are right and I have been misled by highly inaccurate media reports - which I should have double-checked.
No problem Pete, you can never be sure what the European engineers are dreaming up next, I think that's the attraction of the European way of doing things, keeps us interested. The Japs are not likely to copy Desmo valve systems or Boxer engines for their bikes since they can't think of a good reason to do it, which is fine by me with both in my garage. Back to this BMW knocking thread - European bikes are a minority compared to all the Jap bikes so we should accept that, amongst other things, Ducati/BMW owners are all looking for the same thing i.e. riding something different from the herd and we shouldn't abuse each other because of it. Ducati, BMW and also Triumph with their 3 cylinder engines are all doing well considering the economic situation so the European way is working well. Good luck with the Pantahs, a friend of mine has just finished a Pantah resto and everyone thinks he's nuts but not me.
