I Want A 916

  1. 916 Biposto, with a single seat conversion, definitely not a strata. Still very clean and tidy.

  2. Seems expensive for a 916 to me.... what you need is a 998s... much better bike, better engine, newer, more reliable.... in fact i know where there's one for sale

  3. It looks very clean and tidy.
I'm not sure about the monoposto claim - clearly the subframe has footrest mounting brackets. So if it is a "genuine" mono, someone has changed the subframe. Or it's a converted BiPosto. Still lovely, but not worth paying a mono premium as it's all about the subframe. (Replica mono subframes are available from Redfox Grinta in Holland)

  4. Indeed, a grand for a carbon airbox? :astonished:

I bought an EVR large airbox for mine which cost less than a grand, I then sold the old carbon airbox, can't remember how much I got for it but no more than a couple of hundred.

Of course, I've still got the red one in case I ever sell it but I'll not be using it.

That said the bike advertised does look clean & tidy. :upyeah:

  5. Regarding finding a 916 to buy. I think it is very hard as low mileage models tend to have issues unless they are ran often. The reason I say this is i have owned my 916bp since 2006. I bought it with around 12k and now have it at 55k.
I used to use it once a month 50 miles each way for the week to work mainly motorway. I used to leave it on tick over while i put my gloves on and let it warm up. When the engine was refreshed in the last couple of thousand miles. The mechanic said that the top end was better than some low mileage models he had seen. I also at the same time had all the bolts on the frame replaced, greased, new bearings etc.
I have a mosfat rectifier and a lithium battery fitted. The only thing is the mileage it can be off putting as with so many low mileage ones around. I have a friend with a 916 that has not been run in years and is not starting.
Even though my mileage is high, i know what has been done and would value it around 8k. I paid 1600 for it back in 2006 and there was quite a few available to choose from the adverts. If you want one for appreciation there are certain models that are desirable but then are you going to use it? put mileage on a mint machine and then devalue it slowly?
If you really want one, find one you like the look of and this forum is very good for help in any issues. I think even if you find a good one, there will be times when you need to service or fix an aspect on it. There are some good articles on things to look for or take a mechanic along that has knowledge of the models.
It still holds its own and when ever out and about. I still get looks and the MOT guy was amazed at the mileage and condition of mine.
