749 Idle Still Not Perfect.

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by bluey, Feb 29, 2016.

  1. Can someone post a piccy of their throttle cable routing please? Wondering if mine is fouling and causes settings to be incorrect.

  2. So how would I get rid of any condensation in the tank?

  3. HIJACKED! Start a new thread mate, will be better for you & @bluey

  4. OK so I have connected the CO tester yet again this morning. On the front cylinder I can get the CO sitting steady, currently at 3.5%, now here is the catch, on the rear cylinder the CO just refuses to sit steady fluctuating between 0.1% and 4% randomly. Should I therefore assume a problem with the rear cylinder? Already changed most things except coils

  5. If you've covered the basics and having read the thread it seems you have. Your next port of call could be cam timing?
Have you swapped belts recently? We're the old ones very slack? If so the new correct tension belts may have advanced the cams slightly combined with poor co control this could well be your problem.

  6. Swap the coils and retest?

  7. Sorry for the hijack...What Co2 tester are you using?

  8. Gunsons.

Yes the old belts were slack as fook. Going to try a new coil just in case.

  9. On the bike boy thread, I am going to have to learn some more before I fully understand how to go about making these changes.

  10. Ok, so I have managed to make it tick over nicely, it sounds smooth but it still stalls now and then. I'm going to try the coil sticks and if not that the only other thing must be the cam overlap as mentioned in the link above. Nightmare!

  11. I had all sorts of problems with my 999 stalling and refusing to tickover or dying at the lights and being a bastard to start when hot.
It appears that the problem was that the valves needed serious adjusting. Rubbish compression and it wasn't the same on both cylinders in any case.
Now, you'd have to be unlucky to have the same problem, but I suppose that testing compression can be useful if trying to track down bizarre behaviour.
I now have a big bone to pick with the people who were meant to check and adjust the valves. My garagiste (what's that, "mechanic"? He's no longer a dealer) tells me that the bike goes like a good 'un now. Waiting for spring to appear to go and pick it up.
