899. in its own league for build quality, a special feel, light weight, and above all, a fantastic induction noise! ride them all, you will buy the 899
My Dads 899! I bought having never ridden a sports bike and he always said it's the most amazing he ever rode once he got use to it - took me 20 minutes to adjust and fell in love - now he doesn't understand how brilliant it is. Won't own another bike again, got this for life now.
I've only ever heard great things about the 899, reminds me of the 748 series of bikes. The looks, lighter feel and desirability of the bigger capacity bikes... So, how about a 748-s/r/sp/sps.... depending on the model: an 853 conversion, 45/50mm exhaust, ohlins front/rear, sigma slipper, wheels and some other nice little bits and bobs...? Granted, more of a project bike but what a bike it would be.
And the looks! I went down to valencia for the gp with a lad on his black 675 with gold wheels a few weeks back (not an ugly bike by any means) and he said a bit of him died inside each time we pulled up at the lights as he watched everyone drooling over the 899 and ignoring his pride and joy lol. As soon as i saw one at brands in 2013 i knew id own one eventually and i can safely say its the best 10 grand Ive ever spent.
would that just be for your packed lunch? ;-) Personally, I would be on the lookout for a Ducati R (748, 749, 996, 998, 999, 1098). seem to be the investment bike to have. to ride, I would probably go for some sort of trail/enduro/scrambler type of bike that can do a bit of green laning. Pete
Missed one a year ago for £8K with 7000 miles on it. A KTM dealer had obviously not known the recent increases and put it out at book price. Another dealer snapped it up just before I got my call in. It was back on Ebay the same day for 4K more.
RD400 has been sold. Probably get put back to standard and pull 6.5k as a matching numbers uk bike. The fahron kit will sell for 2.5k. Was going to buy it but couldn't bring myself to pull it apart.
