You will probably use small enough resistors to not have to worry about heat. I think that standard bulbs are only 10 watt so the resistors are hardly going to feel hot to touch.
I wouldn't put the resistors and connectors between the legs of the tail tidy - they will be exposed to all the muck from the wheel and probably corrode and give problems later on.
Oh nothing will be exposed. Every connection will be individually heatshrunk and I'll use a big piece of heatshrink at the end to cover everything. I have wiring OCD!
The best spot I have seen suggested is zip tied to the subframe under the tail. Those resistors are gona get pretty warm as they are consuming the same energy the bulb was to trick the system into thinking that it's still there. At the very least turn you signal on for a minute and then feel the resistors and use your judgement.
Got fed up in the end and ordered a pair of Oxford mini arrow indicators (bulb type). I hate faffing around with resistors! Back to the 20 century we go...
If I found a nice pair of LED indicators with built in resistors I'd buy 'em but as far as in line resistors go - I'm out. There's no real benefit of LED indicators anyway plus if if one blows the whole unit goes in the bin. If a bulb goes spend 50p on a replacement and on you go! I think the Oxford arrow mini indicators suit the styling if the 848 more too. Similar shape to those on the front mirrors.
I fitted these LED ones because I like the shape, compared to the standard ones at the top, and because they have a row of red brake light LEDs in the tips.
