Thanks for that, some really good feedback. Obviously if I can get the set-up right the system will be good. Lokyc: "The media player function is the bit that isn't working. Is that on your specific system or is that across the board meaning presumably I wont be able to listen to any music through the mobile phone? If that is so how will that be fixed so that all of the functions work? I suppose a solution to that for now at least would be to just pair everything to the interphone 5 and just go with that thus eliminating the need for the bike's system at all. That might just be the easiest solution. I think I can connect all of those things to the headset. Mind you, I could start a thread about the lack of bloody instructions for the interphone f5 - the exact oppposite the Ducati manual. Or failing all that put the wired "Starcom Digital" system on the bike for the upcoming tour. Ducbird: The reason I want all this stuff on the bike is because touring is what I/we do and it's much better with Sat Nav, music and of the course the connecting headsets for the "there's another castle" type of conversation! Having done scientific research, I can be a bit pedantic. So I would say, in my experience, I have not been able to get the media player to work across my own bike, my dealer's demo bike, and with 4 different phones (3 android running different versions including the latest Jelly Bean, and an iPhone 5). Someone else could have better luck. I was hoping someone on this forum could share a different experience. The advantage of using the bike is one could use a more basic headset and leave the hub function to the bike. There is also the music sharing function. But top/near top range headsets now can function as hubs; as well as nav units like the Garmin 590LM. Its just quite cool to change function and display track info on the bike. Does the bike's system regard the phone and the music coming from it as two "different" sources of info then? I would have thought that the bike recognises the phone and as such the phone is playing music therefore the music is heard through the headset/s?
Yes and no. It recognises one single device, ie phone. But that device has two Bluetooth protocols (ie communication codes). HFP and A2DP. If any of you anaroks dabble with Bluetooth on your computer or look into details in your phone, its the number of services in each device. Phonecalls use HFP (Hands Free Protocol, mono channel) while music is through A2DP, which is stereo at 128kbps. I suspect the problem is the A2DP side of thing. I tried using a lapotop as media player. While the bike and laptop recognise and pair each other, they do not connect. On the phone side, the phone detects both protocols. But when I try to selectively connect only the media player (A2DP) only, the connection is broken. Thus my conclusion the A2DP bit is still not fully functional. Perhaps it needs the app to work or it is a firmware issue. The media player side is slightly more complicated than BT headsets as the bike needs to not just receive audio, but also track information; else it will reject the audio section. Reading of track information requires a different protocol stack which is the same as Caller ID and phone contacts. I know Android phones have compatibility issues unlike iPhones (from experience with the Garmin 590LM). But even iPhones don't work. So as I guess I will just have to wait for July to see if the app changes anything.
Hey Lokyc i have been trying to find some information on the App is the release date July where did you hear that?
Heard it from Ducati customer service. I logged the media player on the website and a representative from Italy rang me. She wasn't able to offer much help as they didn't know much about it either. I suspect the BT module is developed by a 3rd party. But she did say the full functioning app will be released in July. My dealer told me previously they were briefed there has been some licencing issues with Apple and Android which led to the delay.
Thanks for the info, good to know that its still on the way. I think it will be great to be able to review and track a days riding.
Indeed. Will be easier to share with mates than logging on a GPS unit. Telemetry is also useful to help improve riding. But of course, getting out to ride is the first priority.
Jeez it all gets a bit complicated for some of us at least. I do get the principle a bit clearer now though so thanks. I see why the bike system will be better as it will give more information. I'll try to pair my phone (or get my son to do it haha) and see what reaction we have. This thread is side walking a bit but I wonder if the same principle is causing my i-phone not to work on the blue tooth of my car. it did work (complete with names and numbers) and still does work if I type the number in or if someone phones me but the identity of the caller remains unknown. It used to have all my contacts stored but for some reason has lost them and now wont sinc the information across even though I disconnected the pairing and then tried to reconnect it. I just get the message transferring information but it never seems to get there. So I have a partial connection but not full which is again the two code principle - maybe?
I have been playing with this as well and have some problems with the Ducati Media Hub, my set up is Schuberth SCRS headset, Nokia 930 Windows phone and TomTom Rider 2 (I like to be different!). Nokia and SCRS recognised with no problem and able to play music via A2DP from the phone via the Ducati Hub to the helmet with track display on the screen. BUT it will not connect to the TT - TT not at all helpful - it could be the TT or it could be a software revision on the Ducati Hub - maybe a Garmin would work??? Personally I am not that bothered about the Music side, I prefer to hear the induction roar which is pretty loud! Have reverted to the old set up of SCRS, Phone and TT all connected and have deleted the pairings with the Ducati Hub. There are software updates coming so maybe wait a while and try again after the updates. Just completed 1700 miles round Ireland and it is an AWESOME Bike! Faster turn in (uses more of the front tyre than the 2013 model) and loves corners. Lots of grunt that just keeps coming and it is quicker than the 2013 but doesn't seem to be (which could get you into trouble!).
Ahh @Veetwin interesting. So it works with Windows Phone. I should test it on your bike if we have a chance. The TT wouldn't work as the Navi connection is only HFP. As for contact information, that uses a different protocol (PBAP, Phone Book Access Protocol). That may be the sticking point.
