OK I've done it. Hastings Direct £310.15.... Full business use and personal on both...(can you imagine going to the city on the 998:biggrin 988S 2002 £5000 and MTS1200S Sport 2012 £8500 £550 excess (I never claim). At the end of the runway in London, both bikes locked away and alarmed. Pillion cover I'm an older git (46) with max no claims and one 28 day ban from last November (SP30), £400 fine. Hope this helps someone else...keep shopping around...until you reach your wits end..then buy. 90 day EU cover and riding other bikes has 3rd party cover (subject to that bike being normally insured by the owner).
£250 Fully comp with MCE. Protected no claims. I have their max no claims which I believe max's out at 9 years. I also uplifted the brakedown cover, as frankly its rubbish by default. Doesn't cover home start or within a 4 mile radius of your home. That's a long push for a 220kg bike! Its underwritten by the RAC so I suspect its the same for many other insurers. When I go abroad I take out foreign breakdown cover as I need it. Much of their risk assessment beyond experience is more to do with your postcode and age. You will find SP30's make no to little difference in loading (unless your a habitual offender). As with me my premium would not drop any further no matter what security I had planned, so never bother with an alarm. As for modification disclosure (bolt ons), most are taken on as consequential loss by the insurer unless you have a specific agreement, so no skin of their nose.
i was scared off MCE after I received an I incredibly low quote and googled them .... Now insured with Ducati insurance. Unlimited miles max no claims, tracker fitted for about £280
Sorry, Direct Choice ended up being the cheapest last year and the premium dropped about £80 this year too. I was advised by a friend who works in insurance to use Compare Cheap Car and Motor Insurance Quotes | TESCO Compare rather than the other comparison sites, something to do with the referral fees they charge insurance company's making them less competitive, worked for me!
Wicked Quotes, £119 Fully Comp, full Termi declared, bike insured for £15000, 45 year old living just outside Durham City. Ducati wanted to rape me for £750 ! And I wouldn't touch MCE again after they pestered me with up to 3 calls per day for 3 weeks up to my renewal.
I was going with C Nash until I called Ducat Insurance. Breakdown cover isn't needed for two years on new Ducatis because it's included in the Ducati warranty.
was just about to accept quote from wickedquotes £173 51yr old £13000 value 7,000 miles/year 6yrs NCD living in Hampshire £600 excess when they explained theft would not be covered from my home unless bike was locked inside garage, so it would not be covered if it was stolen from my drive, which I often do on a Sunday over lunch. Is that a normal caveat? PS when I asked for cover to include my drive it went up to over £400
I have gone with Bennetts £180 as they only ask that I "normally garage the bike overnight" which it will always be. I have been put off by the realisation that wickedquotes would try to wriggle out of paying a claim. I have not been impressed with MCE this year so will not be going with them.
I am with Wicked (aka Ducati insurance). They said my excess would be doubled if the bike was stolen from my drive. Since I've got a ground anchor and a huge padlock/chain that's unlikely so I accepted.
I've got a two bike policy so it's not quite the same, but last time my renewal came through (from IAM Surety/Adelaide) I went and got a lower 'similar' quote from Carole Nash and went back to them and then brow-beat them into beating it.
Different bike, but i was paying £66 a year for my 1999 R1. Im 40 with about 15years NCB. Adding the 996 to the policy increased it to £350, so i moved to Carole Nash who charged me £120 in total for both. Third Party only as I dont see the point in having fully comp on anything worth less than £5k as the increase in premiums would be huge if i claimed. I get free European breakdown cover, protected NCB, and a DNA marking kit. I had a massive row with my current insurers as I dont see why the policy should jump from £66 to £350 just cos im adding another bike. Both bikes same value, third party only so absolutely no extra risk to the insurance company. In fact, the 996 is a much slower bike than the R1 so in theory it should be a lower risk to them if anything!!
My insurance states that the bike has to kept in garage overnight when at home address 22:00 till 06:00, previous policies have had the same restriction.
That is typical of all the policies I have had where you have stated it is kept in a brick secured garage at the same address. The only way they would move on this was if I took a policy that had it kept roadside, which would make a huge difference to premium loadings.
I've just changed insurers from IAM Surety who were underwritten by KGM @ Lloyds, because I am looking to do some voluntary riding with SERV Wessex, the guys who support the NHS with blood deliveries, amongst other things and KGM would NOT accept covering this unpaid activity within my existing insurance. No matter how much I remonstrated with them they would not accept something as simple as additional riding miles as able to be covered. Wasters........ Anyway, I have recently re-insured via Motor Cycle Direct who use Aviva, on a multi-bike policy, with £250 compulsory excess and NO VOLUNTARY excess, protected no-claims, fully comprehensive, European cover (90 days), with all fitted bike accessories completely covered, mileage based upon 5k miles on the Ducati, 2k miles on my Mille, for £274. I was well pleased with this, especially as it was only £40 more than I paid on the previous policy with IAM, which for the two bikes was £234. I'm coming up to 58 and have been riding since 2001, with a clean license.
I'm just going through the renewal process right now. I've had quotes, based on the same data, which vary between £108 and £330 - how on earth can that be right? I guess some people would say go with the cheapest, but I have to wonder if they've quoting for the right thing, or if it's underwritten by Del Trotter insurance services!!!
