Integrated Heated Grips

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Ape2Duc, Dec 18, 2012.

  1. I could quite easily strip the bike down to that level myself and fit the heated grips, seen some sell for £55 on eBay so that's what I intend to do, then just off to the dealers to get the ECU programmed.

  2. I'm not sure you need to do anything with the ecu. I think (though could be wrong) that the ecu senses if they are plugged in by looking to see if the circuit is completed. Its the same technology as bulb failure detection.
Certainly I would fit them myself and then visit the dealer if required.

I fitted my keyless filler and that just plugged in, no programming needed to enable it.

Boomer one of the biggest issues with the diy pads is the size / shape. Most of the pads are way too big for the pillion seat, and can be too big for the riders seat too. For some its not possible to cut them, so I'm investigating the best option. It is my intention to do a writeup of fitting them when I finally do it.

  3. Good plan:upyeah: It is nice to be able to fiddle with our own bike, learn it better that way! But I ment that 280p is a good price, for the grips, included fitting from a dealer. Considered all the work needed to install them:smile:

  4. A note about heated seats (I had them on my BMW RT): they can get very, very hot if they get damp (well, the heat transfers much better anyway). It can creep up on you and before you know it you'll be getting your bits scalded at inopportune times. Don't say I didn't warn you! ;)

  5. Bit like heated leather car seats! Always feel like ive peed myself after a bit!! Lol

  6. I paid just over £200 for them, my dealer waived the labour charges.

Best £200 I've ever spent, very worthwhile.

  7. Me too:eek:

  8. lmao
Didn't you guys know, you can turn them off as well as on

    Scalded bits...

Back on topic, I guess you guys just need to negotiate with your dealers.
Mine will give me a discount if I remember to ask for it, usually up to 10%, but depends on what it is.
I guess the more you spend, or the better they know you, the more chance you have.
    Worth a shot though.

  9. You definitely have to programme the ECU once the Ducati heated grips have been fitted. Had mine fitted at PDI stage and they didn't work. Had to take it back to have them "activated".

If fitting other maker's aftermarket grips, would the bike ECU recognise them and allow use in the normal way with usage info. shown on dash ? - hmmmm.........I doubt it.

  10. That contradicts what I have been told today by a Ducati dealer, apparently every Multi has a socket under the fuel tank for the grips to connect in to and the ecu is ready regardless?!

Money is tight with xmas and buying the bike etc and I've been quoted £190 fitted prior to collection, gutted I can't afford it as that is about the limit I would be willing to pay. Oh well, stick to my eBay/Breakers plan and fit myself.

  11. Put it on the credit card! they are really good they add a couple of months a year to your riding, mega toasty hot it makes riding in cold weather doable so you get to enjoy the bike more.

  12. Heated grips ? Ducati ? What is the world coming to. Us Ducati owners are well know for being ruff and tuff heated grips indeed next you will be telling me about your slippers.Shape up lads. (This owner has a thermometer on the wall of the garage and only takes the cover of the bike if it shows above 15c)

    Regards Steve

  13. Hi can anyone tell me where to plug the ducati heated grips into is it under the tank I can't see it very well in the service book or any pics

  14. I didn't do my own, but most people are saying you have to remove the tank, a few are saying you can do it without removing the tank. You definitely have to go to the dealer to enable them, unfortunately. Go to Motorcycle Info Pages - Home Andy probably has pics there.

  15. You have to remove the tank. On the previous side, you can just see them on my picture there of my bike without the tank on. The connectors are inside the big rubber sleeve you see just under/behind the steeringlock:smile: The connectors have a little white label on them that says " heat grips" or similar.

  16. Andreas, does the ecu need to be reprogrammed to say they are fitted as we seem to have a difference in opinions from members on here and it seems dealers too.

£190 seems an acceptable price to me and I have now found the cash so have asked the dealer to fit them, may have left it too late now though :(

  18. Yes, the heated grip circuit in the dashboard ECU need to be activated. The only way to do this is with the Ducati Diagnostic System:smile:
