Interesting email - probably spam, suggesting my bike has been nicked

  1. About 6 months ago,my sister-in law watched a factory break-in from her bedroom window, phoned the filth, and described events as they unfolded.
Described the miscreants, the colour/make of their van,and read out the name on the side of the van.
Although the thing took almost an hour,no-one in blue turned up...fair comment, they can't attend everything, she thought.
A week later she happened to see the factory boss arriving so she wandered down the garden for a chat, ask if they's caught the scum etc
Factory bloke told her the filth told him there was no evidence or witnesses,so best thing was forget it and strengthen his fences and locks
So she rang the same plod number as before, explained the situation, and was told she must be mistaken as there was no call logged from her on the relevant date, and when she got a bit miffed was told to bugger off and stop stirring things up....
My sis-in-law is many things, but not a liar nor a fantasist
    Apologies for the thread hijack

  2. Same boat here lightning I aint keen on Fanta neither.

  3. Thats just shoddy police work

  4. Exactly!! They don't from my limited experience and I would be offended if someone wrote to me like that and if they did I think you would have cause for complaint.

You can track his IP address just put the header in here Complete email header analysis. Analyse, track ip here and see what it comes up with.

I receive many scam mails every day and very occasionally I have a little play with a scammer and you would be amazed what they will try.

  5. Read the whole thread , it was a copper , but had the wrong reg number by 1 digit

  6. Very similar thing happened to me, my 6yo daughter spotted people clambering over connecting houses and nicking the lead as they went so she asked if we should call the police. So we rang and filmed it on our video camera. We got the reg number of the car and good shots of all involved. Then the police turned up and nicked them.

Later on we got a strange call from a policeman virtually begging us not to make a statement. I could go into detail but I have to get ready for work but let's just say this coppers attempts to make us lose interest were so see through it was embarrassing, even my 6yo worked out what he was doing and it was really awkward trying to explain to her why the policeman did what he did. Shameful.

  7. If it doesn't get recorded, and it doesn't get investigated, then it never happened. It's a great way of getting the figures down.

I suspect if you added at the end of the conversation "I have the thief locked in my garage. After I've finished on the phone to you, I'm going out there and start cutting a finger off every minute. Then the toes, and after that complete limbs. Chop chop" they'd be there instantaneously.

  8. I once suffered a car alarm going continuously for 2 days over a Bank holiday weekend
I phoned the old bill, they said there was no-one who could help out and I'd have to suffer till the Owner got back
It seemed to amuse them when I said if no-one turned the fookin thing off sharpish I was going to shoot the car with my 12 bore...
The plod bint gently reminded me that as I had given them my name and address,"it was probably best keep the gun in the cupboard,eh,Sir..."
The car battery died a couple of hours later, luckily

  9. Email addresses can be hoaxed with the right software. Never trust emails unless they have digital signature!

  10. I would always check the mail headers and see what mail gateways the messages has come through. You'll find it's likely been forwarded from some dodgy ISP in Africa or Eastern Europe.

  11. @ markm - whilst that is always good advice, I'm sure I won't be the only one to point out that if you read the whole thread you'll find it was actually genuine...

  13. Because its 'I've had a bad plod experience'

When actually they were trying to be proactive about a bike theft.

  14. Moved to the 'bitch about the plod' section

  15. Ah...............I have just been to 'plod the bitch'..........

  17. @ bradders "When actually they were trying to be proactive about a bike theft." Errrr... no. Actually they appear to have been tidying up their "clear-up rate"...

  18. Semantics. If it means they actually solve crimes, how can that not be a good thing ;-)
