at the risk of sounding controversial i think a lot of problems come from over pampering, fiddling modding over use of the hose bears some blame as well i think. t.belt are very robust oil is exceptional compared to 20 years ago and i am sure i was told by a trainer electrical connections are only good for a finite times of disconnecting and reconnecting. just use it dont worry about it. :smileys:
there you go. it's only a mystery when you don't know how. i promise you, it's only hard when your working to the clock.
Ok, the final drive belt on my Harley has done 14yrs and 40,000 miles and runs under worse conditions than a cambelt. The technology is similar so 2yrs for Ducati cambelts does seem a bit OTT.
an old thread, but I just discovered it ..... same manufacturer, but not necessarily to the same specification, with the same materials where the materials are in the same form - one length Vs more than one length with the same inspection standard with the same inspection sampling plan and I'm not saying that makes them bad, but potentially different.
According to a Gates technical rep I spoke to, they manufacture the Ducati belts to the same spec as any other suitable belt they produce. However, I wouldn't use any belts other than Ducati or those supplied by Exige which are least the same spec as Ducati; remembering of course that some belts have rounded teeth and some have square teeth. For sniffipn's benefit, for the carbed 750SS that he has, it will have square tooth belts.
I made the mistake of commenting on a post on the DOC facebook page the other day. A guy had bought a brand new Monster that was two years old and had six miles on the clock and was asking if he needed to change the belts. I know half the people on here will disagree with me but I commented that they are not made of cheese and the standard massive discussion followed. The thought of a huge company like Ducati making a bike with belts that would degrade whilst brand new and sitting in a showroom for a couple of years is ludicrous.
