Is Bike Not Roadworthy Now - Mot Testers Input Required

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by RC1, Aug 2, 2021.

  1. My experience was at MOT I had no front indicators but only the rears fitted, I taped out the fitted rear indicators and was told it’s a failure.

I’m guessing cookster means a bike that has head and taillights fitted but taped out don’t need indicators fitted.

  3. Oh I see, literally all of them - headlight, rear light and indicators?

  4. Without complicating the question too much as there are odd foibles to be found with MOT passes that are construction and use offences. If you’ve taped out all the lights can you be prosecuted riding away from the MOT station should you be stopped by a Bobby?

  5. Thanks again, seems you were right - never mind :(

  6. i dont know mate obviously im not the police im guessing not as a lot of off road bikes dont have them fitted, but i do know they work to a different set of rules we do, which in my mind is stupid, ive actually failed bike on lights ect, and have seen people stand outside tape stuff up and come back in for a retest so ive past it (with an advisory) then they take all the tape off as soon as they leave.

I know the police hate road legal track bikes being on the road no mirrors ,lights ect.

  7. Cheers, just that my car passed it’s with an advisory on a tyre that passed the MOT but was warned should I be stopped by the Police on the way home tyre was illegal under those circumstances.

Yes I had my Green laner MOT’ed a couple of years ago, it had no lights at all but the tester did say for my own safety to but a brake light on the back just to be safer than relying on hand signals or forgetting to.

  8. yeah exactly mate, a car tyre can be bold on both outer edges for the mot and pass but drive down the road and get pulled by the police , half the police dont know the rules either which doesnt help

  9. I wasn’t aware that an MOT tester could pass a illegal tyre.:upyeah:

    Back to lighting-
Offence = failing to maintain obligatory lighting.

If a white/ amber/ red light is fitted it has to work, (even every one on those gynormous Christmas tree trucks) and in my day the switching system was a verbal warning unless the drive got a bit ar5ey and then it was part of the lighting system.

  10. Me too, but it was pointed out by the MOT tester that it was a pass but illegal:thinkingface:

I find this baffling that truckers put this much illumination on a truck given that should any light be out if pulled by VOSa it a flag against the operator. As we know nobody wants to go Amber if operating a LGV, go Red you may as well pack up.:worried:
