Is the MTS 1200 a good high mileage tool ??

  1. Cheers Guys, I have been chatting with my local Independant Bike Guy (adismotorcycles.co.uk), he has serviced these engines before - and his mechanic is a Ducatisti. He quotes 350 sovs INC vat, as opposed to 650 excluding VAT! - we might be back on track. There are a few decent looking second hand examples on various sites for just under 10 grand. I just need to sell the Darmah ( see ebay - 150 watchers and no bids !) and then the 1200GS _ I will be sorry to see her go - but cant wait to try the MTS !! The Beemer has done 50K in three years _ great bike.

  2. Thanks Duke63 _ there are a few nice ones around, including a "Special Black" one on autotrader. The poor guys has spent a fortune on a paint job which he thinks is fabbo - then has to sell the bike for £8000 because nobody else agrees !! Might be tempted - see what the wife thinks of black. Holy shmolly it is black though!!

  3. Dodgy Dave - I like the adismotorcycles price but, if the bike you buy still has warranty remaining, that's a no-no. Only authorised Ducati dealers if you want the warranty. I agree about self servicing. I've always serviced my own bikes (except for warranty period and even then I got a dealer friend to stamp the book if it was one he was authorised for) and I prepared race bikes for 20 years but I really don't fancy working on the Multi. Perhaps I'm too old (actually no perhaps about it!). A significant factor is that the Multi especially has been subject to a wide variety of recalls and upgrades and you won't know about or get all the current upgrades without a dealer.

  4. And then there are those of us that don't get cold hands.

Handguards plus Lindstrands Zernit gloves see me good for a couple of hours at temperatures hovering around zero, with none of the bulk of winter gloves. If it's minus figures, I'll resort to my trusty old Alpinestars M1s. If it's too cold for those, then really I shouldn't be on the damn bike.

  5. Hard to say Andy, they're a new release this year. I'm very impressed with them for the 3 months I've been running them, they've kept out the water in heavy rain, kept out the cold on early morning commutes yet not cooked my hands on the way home when the temperature has subsequently risen by about 15 degrees. I hate not being able to feel the controls properly so the thin lining is brilliant for me.

Well constructed, well thought out design, and a sensible price...pretty much a perfect all-purpose glove IMO. When it's properly cold and wet I'll use the M1s, when it's dry and very hot I have a set of Astars Octane moto gloves - otherwise it's these as default.

  6. Now on my 2nd Mutley S Touring after 10000 on the first one.most excursions are long rides.. Europe 3000 miles Scotland 1000 Long UK commutes 250 each way. It's the best bike I have ever ridden across large distances. Just run the new one in and added a 500 miles in a week. Buy one now....

  7. Dare I ask what happened to the first one?

  8. I'll have to watch out for them, don't like to buy without trying on.
I have a pair of Buffalo Thermosports for cold/wet weather....like you I don't like the full-on winter gloves as I like to feel the controls. They're not too bad (especially for the price) but I'd prefer them to be even less 'bulky' and your hands do get sweaty if the temp warms up. Overall, not bad.
Buffalo, Takachi, Diadora, Duchinni Motorcycle clothing and equipment for UK bikers.

Summer gloves....love these, need replacing really and very likely I'll go for the same. Very comfy and light, mix of goat and kangeroo leather, HEIN GERICKE RACING EXTREME GLOVE: Hein Gericke Racing Extreme Glove, black - Gloves

  9. First one was fine. It was one of the first in the country. Ran it in and rode it straight to Italy. Only hiccup was surge issue which did p**s me off but Ducati tweaked it at Misano plus I had a ton of support from the dealer (Ducati Leeds btw). Traded in as I like a new shiny bike gotta spend it on something no pockets in shrouds and all that.

  10. That's ok then.......thought there might be some horror story for a minute!

  11. I *think* the nearest dealers to you will be either Bransons in Yeovil, or Haines up at Gloucester. There's a dealer locator on the Jofama website.

I got mine from Hideout at the same time as they were making my jacket.

  12. Cheers Guys and Gals - have just sold my Darmah ( paltry £3850), and hoping to get a half decent trade in on my R1200GS at Hunts Manchester when I go for the testride on Thursday _ yee - haa !! If you look at their website the Mutley is "sold" _ but dont tell the wife just yet !!

  13. Nice one, you will not be disappointed with the test ride!!:upyeah:

Congrats! :D .............you have some time to order a few farkles before you collect

  15. The poor old Bemmer doe'nt know what has hit her :) never had so much polish and Solvol - and I must say it does polish up pretty well - after 51k miles in three years ! Not thought about the farkles just yet, but will try and get topbox and panniers at cost. I will keep you posted - cheers dave

  16. Had a test ride on Friday - all of 50 yards !! Picked a massive nail in the rear tyre. Hunts of Mancherster ( h@nda) were as good as gold, will fit new tyre, service (oil) the bike and deliver on Thurs or Friday. They gave me £3500 for my 58K BMW GS as well _ sorted. The Darmah went to a guy who thumbed it up from Newmarket and rode it home on Thursday _ hope they made it OK< hav'nt heard from him since !!

  17. That's great news, obviously 50 yards was far enough to find out what a great bike it is!

  18. Is it nearly Friday ?
