1200 DVT Is The S £2000 Better?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Harydog, Jun 29, 2015.

  1. Ask a Dealer about LED Lights, I asked for LED Rear Lights and they priced up thinking I wanted LED lights and did not have them all ready, so I am guessing, and only guessing that they can be retrofitted

  2. 1200 s is a lot better and its a no brainer! what you get is
    colour screen
    Cornering lights
    electronic active suspension

you can't buy these for £2k

  3. do you get heated grips on any of the DVT's? Ive been looking at the specs on ducatis website and can't seem to find any mention of them no matter what model?

Id be quite tempted by the non S i think, i actually like the idea of getting new internals and springs set for me and with most things of a fully automated nature it becomes hard work to change away from factory spec.

heated grips though..... thats a must :)

  4. Heated grips are part of one of the packs, cannot remember which one, they can be added individually if required as an option.
S version has so many variations I cannot imagine anyone not getting a setting that did not suit their requirements.

  5. @damodici - Heated grips [96680451A, £213] are in the Touring Pack [97980031A, £954] which also includes panniers and main stand or the pack can be ordered "factory fitted" when you order the bike for less, around £750 I think.

    ----
@TanCaker - don't forget the upgraded front brakes.

  6. I have ordered them standa lone with my urban pack. Dont need stand and panniers

  7. How much is the urban pack? Is that a top box and tank bag?

  8. Ok guys people who don't know about his I need to explain how good is S suspension is !

    You can't dig the bike . !
Under heavy breaking with pillion the bike doesn't dig.

In acceleration the bike hardens the rear shock so everything is under control coming out of the corners !

You can adjust each modes suspension settings and also there is extra adjustment called pre load settings.
And the adjustment is really beyond any electric suspension. Softest softer default harder hardest . 5 setting of softness .
1-24 clicks of pre load settings as well as that the bike measures the weight of the pillion and rider always adjust as you go. Never fails .

Even just for suspension the bike worth that extra spend

  9. You may regret that one day, @bradders . Never know when they may come in handy.

  10. I reckon urban pack would be my choice

Don't like termi exhausts so see that option as pointless, panniers I never used on the last multistrada so again no use for me and the enduro pack......well, let's be honest, it ain't enduro by any stretch.

Bonus is the one I'd pick is cheapest :)

  11. Yes, the powered box. Not had the invoice yet think its about £500

  12. Yep am considering asking if it can be added now, as I store it on centre stand. Have an abba stand but not sure I can be arsed with the faff. I have faff.

  13. Centre stand is worth it if you tour loads and to lube the chain, although you can still do it with out it

  14. I got 1200s and didn't get any packages I buy individual it's not cheaper or more expensive !
I order heated grips, termi slip on,little bag for tank with usb that's it.

However I find an amazing deal on eBay I bought the panniers new condition for 360£ they are great. But wouldn't like to pay them 700£.

Anyway guys one more comment !

I hate middle stand HOWEVER filling the tank full is impossible without the middle stand as the lean is quite a lot. Last time I hold the bike up right and my wife fill the bike and its A pain !!!
So thinking of ordering a centre stand because the bike really needs it for fill ups , and time to time chain lubing although I have a stand for that :)

  15. Also guys one of the biggest reason you should choose s version above stabdart is the brakes !!!

M5 calipers are worth £650 a pair !! And they are truly amazing !

  16. I appreciate the love for the S model but It's still all an extra £2500+ for parts some simply don't need, the brakes aren't to be sniffed at on the standard bike and I doubt the M5's will provide that much better feel or use for the majority of multistrada riders.

Yes spec wise they're better but is there a gain for road riding even at pace? I doubt it tbh

I had the previous S 1200 with adjustable electronic ohlins suspension (pre sky hook ) and never changed the suspension after I dialled in one decent setting. Admittedly my current s1000r has ddc which works on the fly but I'm still quite old school when suspension is concerned and like the feeling of familiarity as opposed to constant changes. I'd rather set up the bike to me and leave it alone, that way I find things consistent in terms of feel.

The colour dash I can live without as it's a little more about gucci than necessary and headlights I always change bulbs anyway.

Normally I'd always go for the top end bike but if I went dvt multistrada I think this time I'd leave the suspension old school and go standard, spend money on decent suspension internals and performance modifications

  17. I think most of the dealers are using the S Touring model for demo bikes, so the heated grips are already fitted.

I thought the S came with them as standard until I realised its the touring version.

  18. Is it worth the extra, depends if you want skyhook, coloured TFT, multimedia option, better brakes, want a white one,LED lights, if you do YES if you don't NO. your choice. me I wanted an S but none in till August, could not wait, I'll take the standard, and as Fatfingers73 said £2K is a lot of fuel. Loving every second :upyeah:

    • Sometimes better to park on centre-stand, especially on ferries
    • Easier to lube the chain
    • Easier to check the tyres for wear or nails
    • Easier to clean the left side of the bike
    • Easier to fill up with fuel if you want to brim it
    • Useful if the side-stand cracks or the pivot wears out
