Is This Even Legal?

  1. Interesting to note that they ended production in 1980, so the one I restored would have been a 1969/70 model in that case. I remember it had 16" wheels which when they were made for the build had to come from an ice cream vendors bicycle.

The engine was very simple and at the time parts were easily available, it was very slow though and needed a lot of peddling up hill. I think the appeal in France was that youngsters could ride them at the age of 14, that's if I remember correctly.

  2. Also in Italy, Spain and some other European countries; 14 yrs old, no licence required up to 50cc.

Even if you lose your licence you could still ride one (Italy) as no licence required, back in the day no insurance or helmet required either although that has changed in more recent times.

Not keen on the French FWD version though...

  3. You were "driving" it the definition is having control over its steering and forward motion it's irrelevant wether the engine works or not. You were driving without docs and on the pavement to boot you could have been banned before you even started you bad lad

  4. No insurance, no MOT, no Tax, no licence, not old enough, on the pavement............(helmets not required then).

........Close call.........Lucky we knew Plod well.

  5. yip i got 6pionts and 160 fine for pushing a scrambler at the side of the road. 30 years ago.

  6. Phew! I was lucky then, because IIRC it had a bald tyre and no silencer either (and the lights didn't work, nor did the speedo).

But it was a lot longer ago than your incident Fin...

  7. I was told a number of years ago, even pushing a motorbike requires a helmet and all documents as you are in control of it's speed and direction. But I'm guessing you must've really pissed the copper off if you're getting nicked for this.

  8. Ha........Helmets weren't compulsory when Mr Nice Plod tugged us.....

  9. that'll be great pissed up back from the pub via the chippy!

  10. think you can get done for that to.

  11. ahem yep got 4 points on my licence when I was 16
pushing a 125 yz crosser down the road to local farm tracks
    in court no insurance etc
wheels had to be 6 inches off the floor

ahh well young and stupid lol

  12. Jesus Christ what sort of Police state do you lot live in! I thought it was bad over here in the 70s but when I was stopped riding my scrambler on the road by a land rover full of the SS RUC, as they were lovingly referred to back then, we got no more than a telling off! And that was caught giving it some onto the road - ok it was in the 'country' and not town - had we been in the city they might've been harsher, but considering the amount of joyriding that was going on then, kids on scramblers aren't much of a worry - or at least they shouldn't be!!

Can't believe Police would give points to a kid for pushing a scrambler on the footpath wtf is wrong with them ffs!!

  13. got to clime the ladder some how.

  14. Although it says the item is located in Porstmouth, and is shipped from the UK, the wording of the advert appears to be translated literally from Chinese... The only way anyone can make a complete, working two-stoke motor and sell it for £80 is if the build quality is very, very bad... Or is that just me being cynical again ?
Although... If I'd seen this when my KE100 engine expired I might have been tempted to try fitting one to that just to see if it worked...

  15. But - back at the OP...
    "Is it legal?"
    No, almost definitely not...

  16. There was another on on ebay last week that someone had fitted to a chopper. That one actually looked quite good.

  17. done that.
