Just chipping in, as someone who didn't know anyone 12 months I ago, I struggled at first to find out what was going on as well, but having joined the Facebook local branches and the Whatsapp, I've been able to do something ducati pretty much each weekend. By not using facebook, or whatsapp, I think you've pretty much excluded yourself from any currently used method of being included. DOCGB don't seem to maintain the forums or events calendar so they really are the only way to be involved. Could you not just create a blank facebook profile ? it's easy to do and you can use a bespoke email, a false name or user-tag, you can avoid pictures etc . And simply use it to join the groups. e.g. no personal data used at all. Not sure what other way would work, unless you can try and link with someone else who is on the Whatsapp or Facebook groups ?
Yes your right for the reasons highlighted I don't think you will get scammed from a DOC group that why I pasted the organisers for your area. In our group you are added by the organiser and it's mainly for meets/rideouts in our area. I feel pretty safe in our group as a female and had no one contact me or been scammed My wats app is set to private

Hey Bill, agree with your sentiments 100 %, I don’t do Facebook, never will but we stay in touch in the north west via WhatsApp group. Once you make contact with the group local to you, suggest what’s app or even email comms,we also have a forum which sadly is getting used less and less due to the other forms of media. I looked a few weeks ago earliest train wouldn’t get me there until 11:30 as no earlier trains were running. I guess either engineering works or a strike prevented earlier trains.
